Is it true that’s probably too little too late for Sun Valley to make the playoffs in 2026?

Probably.

Is it also true that after an eleven game losing streak that winning three games in a row, two of which were against teams that are likely headed to the district playoffs, is awesome and worth celebrating for a young team with a bright future?

Absolutely.

Sun Valley 4, Great Valley 2

The Vanguards are hot folks. The 5A bracket should watch out. 

Sun Valley picks up their third straight win, and have won as many games in the span of five days as they won in total last year. 

Jax Casamento drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the second on a base hit that drove in Austin Jennings to give Sun Valley an early 1-0 lead.

Not much happened until Great Valley scored in the fifth. All that silence is thanks to Jaden Comisiak who went three innings and allowed only two walks and no hits. 

In the fifth inning, Great Valley took the lead on a two-run double from Ty Callahan. 

But the Vanguards answered right back. Alex Mai tied the game at two a piece, driving in Comisiak on a base hit. With two outs, back-to-back bases loaded walks from Riley Comisiak and Logan Howe gave the Vanguards a 4-2 lead.

Ryan Messick pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game, allowing only two hits and striking out six to close out the game and was credited with the win. 

Great Valley falls to 10-8 and will face Oxford on Tuesday.

The Vanguards improve to 5-11, after a 3-15-1 season last Spring. This is their third straight win, and will look to make it four Saturday morning at 11:00 at home against Interboro (10-5).

Malvern Prep 11, Episcopal 0

Malvern Prep clearly had revenge on their minds after falling to Episcopal 4-1 earlier in the year.

The Friars led off this game with a homer from NC State recruit Jalen Bowman, and never really looked back. They scored four in the first, three in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth to win this game in mercy rule fashion.

Jackson Melconian looks like that injury is in the past as he had two doubles and drove in a run while scoring three runs. Cole Scarbinsky, Bryan Cogliano and Luke Moore all had two hits, while Scarbinsky drove in three runs and Moore drove in two.

On the mound for Malvern Prep, Collin Romanczuk continued a stellar season with five scoreless innings with just five hits allowed, zero walks and three strikes. He pounded the zone with 41 strikes on 58 pitches.

For Episcopal, JD Amoroso, Spencer Schuh, Reggie King, Baxter Schuh and Ben Michel all had hits in the loss.

Malvern Prep improves to 7-1 in the Inter-Ac, earning them at least a share of the title. They will host St. Joe’s Prep Saturday at noon before trying to win the Inter-Ac outright with a home game vs Penn Charter on Tuesday.

As for Episcopal, they fall to 4-4 in the Inter-Ac and will be off until they host Springside Chestnut Hill on Tuesday.

Delco Christian 20, Jenkintown 4

Delco Christian put a whopping 12 runs on the board in the first, and that was more than enough to win this game in four innings. The Knights also scored two in the third and six in the fourth to run away with this one.

Maden Longley had a monster day at the plate, driving in seven runs with a homer and a triple as part of three hits. Matteo DeBellis had two hits including a triple while driving in two runs, and Josiah Lyren had two hits and drove in a run while walking twice. Gabe DiGregorio had a hit, two walks and drove in two runs.

Nate Wilcox threw 2.2 scoreless innings on the mound in the win as well.

Delco Christian improves to 7-3 in the Bicentennial League and will host Shipley for a non-conference game on Monday for their next game.

Penn Charter 3, Haverford School 1

After winning eight of nine games, The Haverford School has now lost five in a row after this one.

They scored one in the first after a Braydon Scanlan sac fly scored Zack Lawler, who led off the game with a base hit, but that was the only run they would score. Penn Charter scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second.

Zack Lawler had two hits in the loss, one of those being a double. Nicky Vanni also had two hits and Mike Noone had one. Jacob Horwitz struck out seven over three innings with two hits allowed and two earned runs while Owen Murphy threw three shutout innings in relief with just one hit allowed and six strikeouts for the Fords.

Haverford falls to 3-5 in the Inter-Ac and take on Bonner for a fun non-conference game on Saturday. That game was originally scheduled for Rutgers-Camden, but the Bonner players at our game of the week said it may be moved, so not 100% sure where that game will be played.

This was a game of the week that I had really been looking forward to for weeks.

Two very similar stories as both of these teams were near the bottom of the central league standings in 2025, and are both near the top in 2026.

I think there’s a very real chance these two teams could meet again in the PIAA District 1 5A bracket, but for now, the regular season series goes to Penncrest.

Penncrest 3, Springfield 1

Our game of the week presented by Ballout Baseball featured a high stakes battle between Central League foes. Liam Wray was the star of the show as Penncrest got a huge win on the road against Springfield behind his complete game.

Backed by a stellar defense, Wray only allowed one run, scattering 4 hits and striking out 3 in the 3-1 victory.

Penncrest opened the scoring in the second. Braden Davis led off with a single, advanced to second after a walk, and came home following a two-out error by the Springfield defense.

Hunter Kass was the batter when the Lions scored their first run. Kass was also involved in the second. He was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth, took second on a wild pitch, and was driven home by a Lucas DiLenno.

Another error gave Penncrest their third run in the fifth. Springfield couldn’t handle a Henry Murphy ground ball and Dilenno was able to score.

The Penncrest defense was sharp all day, and that really was the difference in this one.

A solid six innings from Nolan Dulski kept Springfield in this one. The Cougars showed some life in their final at bat, with Sean O’Reilly driving in Nick Corse for a run. Wray was able to shut the rally down, getting a flyout and a lineout that secured the win.

Springfield falls to 8-5 in the Central League. They’re off until Monday, when they host a tough Strath Haven team fighting to make the postseason.

Penncrest is 9-4 in the league after taking both games against Springfield and right on the bubble of a first round bye in the district 1 playoffs. They’ll travel to Marple on Monday for their next game.

Haverford 6, Lower Merion 3

Shane Durkan entered Thursday’s matchup on milestone watch.

Durkan, a senior, was tied for the Haverford High career hits record going into their game against Lower Merion. He picked up the record breaking 73rd hit in style; blasting an opposite field home run that gave his Fords the lead in their final at-bat. 

Haverford went to bat in the top of the seventh trailing 2-1, a rare late deficit for a team that’s undefeated in league play.

Charlie Pusztay drew a walk to lead off the inning and Bobby Menear, who knocked in Haverford’s only run to that point, put him in scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Gavin Andrewson made sure the opportunity wouldn’t go to waste, ripping a single to tie the game.

Jimmy Boyle walked to set the table for Durkan, whose record breaking bomb cleared the left field fence and put Haverford up 5-2. 

Owen Klick added another with an RBI triple. Four walks made it 6-3  got the winning run up to the plate for Lower Merion in the bottom of the seventh. Rocco Kelleher was able to close this one out with a groundout. 

Leo Ufberg got the Aces on the board in the second. Nick Dragut hit a home run of his own in the third for their second run. 

Boyle came through with another solid start for Haverford, striking out 10 in 4.2 innings before hitting the pitch count limit. Kelleher was stellar in relief and picked up the W.

Brian Heck was good for Lower Merion but just could not finish the job in the final inning. The Aces fall to 5-8 and sit right on the outside of the District 1 6A playoffs. They’ll play at Ridley on Monday.

Haverford moves to 13-0 in the Central League and clinches at least a share of the league title. A win Monday against Upper Darby would give the Fords the outright title.

Radnor 6, Marple Newtown 4

Radnor has pretty much solidified themselves as the number two team in the Central League.

Six wins in their last seven, and they’re playing like a team that’s nowhere near slowing down. 

Today? Total control from start to finish. They jumped out early and maintained a lead throughout the game, even up 6-0 at one point. And on the mound, Wake Forest commit Daniel Kellis was dealing in his second appearance of the year.

Coming into the season there was a lot of talk surrounding the Radnor group. Yes, they have the pitching, but the offense was definitely in question. They lost some key seniors that were huge contributors to last season’s success, but the new guys have certainly filled the roles. It’s hard to follow up the amazing year they had last spring, but this group looks promising heading into May.

The Raptors struck right away this afternoon thanks to a Matt Medina groundout, putting them on the board first.

Nobody else crossed the plate until the top of the sixth when Radnor put another three on the board. Andrew Quigley walked, and Hayden Goldenberg singled to put two runners on. Daniel Kellis then roped a triple to deep center field scoring two. Right after him, Austin Havertine singled to left scoring another. It’s safe to say they can hit and pitch. 

Radnor kept their feet on the gas in the top of seventh when Caden Szychulski singled, driving in two more. 

Marple didn’t go down easy though. In the bottom of the seventh, they made a real push with four runs. After a walk to start things off, John Matthews tripled to bring one in. Sean Pancoast followed with a single to score Matthews. Then Zach Marro and Jordan DiPinto drew walks to load the bases. Cole Buckley came through with a single, driving in two more and suddenly it was a two-run game.

Andrew Quigley then entered the game to pitch with two outs, and got Jackson Burger to line out, ultimately cutting their comeback short. 

Pitching was very dominant from both sides today. As talked about earlier, this was only the second time we saw Kellis pitch this year. He had been playing mostly outfield for the Raptors so far, and with the playoffs on the horizon I’m sure we can expect to see more from him on the mound. He was very sharp today going 4.0 IP and only allowing one hit, as well as striking out 6. 

For Marple, Chase Magee got the nod. He pitched well aside from the sixth inning outburst by the Raptors, only allowing one run. 

At the plate, Szychulski, Kellis and Havertine all managed two hits on the day and led a great offensive showing. For Marple, Buckley, Matthews, Pancoast, Marro, and DiPinto all contributed base knocks. 

Randor (10-3 in CL) will welcome Harriton (3-10) for their second showing of the season on Monday. Marple Newtown (4-9) will take on Penncrest (9-4) also on Monday. 

Ridley 7, Conestoga 2

Ridley keeps on winning. The Raiders have now won five in a row and are winners of their last 7 out of 8. They are not slowing down one bit. This is the best time of the year when you see teams really start to establish themselves as contenders. And it’s looking like Ridley is one of those teams.

They stayed hot today with a composed team win, knocking off Conestoga. Thanks to an explosive third inning and prominent pitching they were able to get the job done easily. 

Ridley opened the scoring in the top of the first after a wild pitch scored a run. Landon Jones grounded out which drove in a run for Conestoga to even the game after one inning. 

The Raiders then made the score 5-1 in the top of the third after the freshman Evan Nangle delivered a two-run RBI single. Jared Pugh then doubled, scoring one run, and an error got another one in. 

Landon Jones drove in another run on a single to get the game back within three, but Ridley never looked back. 

It was a team win indeed, with six players all contributing hits, with three of them having two. Jayden Davis, Pugh, and Jake Mansfield being those guys. Evan Nangle led Ridley with two RBI’s. Davis and Logan Bubb also both stole multiple bases. As a team they stole eight. 

I’m not sure the hitting was even the best part. The Ridley pitching today was absolutely lights out, especially Jake Mansfield. Jared Pugh got the start and went 2.2 IP allowing 2 hits and 2 ER. Mansfield went 4.1 IP and didn’t allow a single hit. Props to him for excellent relief work. 

Nolan Campbell took the loss for Stoga. Liam Scheffler and Shawn Soura came out of the pen as they tried to minimize Ridley’s lead. Chase Cherny led the way offensively with two hits.

The Pioneers (5-8 in CL) will look to get back on track as they will travel to Cardinal O’Hara (6-10) for a non-conference matchup on Saturday. For the Raiders (7-6), they will host Lower Merion (5-8), who they notably beat last year after an unreal come back with 11 runs in the seventh.

Strath Haven 3, Harriton 0

Today, Strath Haven played host to Harriton as they celebrated seniors for the annual senior night game. Great pitching from both sides was the big headline in this one.

For Haven, Travis McDonough got the nod in this game and hurled a great five innings and earned the win. McDonough held Harriton scoreless while only allowing two hits and a walk and struck out four. Jasper Hals then followed behind him for the two inning save. Hals also allowed no runs. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Neither McDonough nor Hals allowed a Harriton player past second base.

Offensively for the Panthers it was Will Taylor, Connor Musumeci, and Patrick O’Connor. Taylor went 2-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Musumeci went 3-3 with three singles. O’Connor produced the other run scored today for Haven. He went 1-1 with an RBI single and two walks.

For the Rams on the mound, Myles Freed and Nate Swalley both pitched three innings each. Freed was handed the loss as he allowed three runs on six hits and two walks. He also struck out four Panthers in this contest. Swalley then came in for another three innings of work. He had a good outing allowing no runs on three hits and two walks, while also striking out four.

Harriton’s bats were quieted by Haven today. Calvin Costello, Gaven Bowman, and Sam Bohenkamp were the only offense and each went 1-3 with a single.

With three games left to play in the season, the 7-10 (6-7 in the Central League) Strath Haven Panthers will head to Springfield on Monday for what should be another great battle between the two teams. Harriton (3-10) will travel to Radnor on Monday and will look to improve to 6-10 overall and 4-10 in the Central League.

Garnet Valley 16, Upper Darby 0

Garnet Valley led a consistent offensive attack in this one, scoring in each of their four plate appearances.

They scored two in the first, three in the seventh, seven in the third and four in the fourth to hit the mercy rule in this one. Cole Lombardo led the offense for the Jaguars as he went 3/3 with 4 RBI while scoring three runs. Harrison Maull had two hits and drove in two runs.

Travis Griffith and Garret Hosterman had two hits while driving in a run while Ashton Yau and Thomas Acosta drove in two runs.

On the mound, Connor Criswell handled this one himself as he went all five innings with five hits allowed and two strikeouts.

With the win, Garnet Valley improves to 8-5 in the Central League. If they win one more game they are a virtual lock to make the playoffs. They could make it at 8-8 but it’s a toss up. Next up for them is a home game Monday with Conestoga.

As for Upper Darby, they fall to 0-13 in the Central League and will head to 13-0 Haverford on Monday for their next game.

Chichester 18, Penn Wood 0

Chichester only needed two innings of offense in this one to win in mercy rule fashion.

The Eagles scored eight in the first and ten in the second to take down Penn Wood. Five players had multiple hits and five players drove in multiple runs Zach Murray, Damian Diaz-Badillo, Cole Sanford, Luke Werley and John Clausen all had at least two hits, with Werley having three.

Murray, Sanford, Werley, Clausen and Tyler Helton all drove in multiple runs, with Sanford and Helton driving in three and Clausen driving in four.

On the mound, Diaz-Badillo threw two scoreless innings and Logan Werley threw a clean third inning to win this one.

Chichester remains undefeated in the Del Val at 10-0 and will look to sweep the season series with Interboro on Tuesday at Interboro.

As for Penn Wood, they fall to 1-8 in the Del Val and will host Boys Latin on Tuesday for their next game.

There really isn’t much better than winning a baseball game. With that being said, winning two baseball games in one day is pretty cool too.

That was the case here for Radnor, as they finished off a game that began on March 18th, won that one, played a full second game, and won that one as well.

And it pretty much clinched a playoff spot for the Raptors.

Radnor 4, Strath Haven 1 – Radnor 2, Strath Haven 1

On a unique day of baseball, Radnor hosted Strath Haven for two games this afternoon. The first game was the finish to a game played on March 18th and the second was a regular game. Radnor ended up being victorious in both contests.

In the remainder of the first game played today, Blake Havertine finished the game for Radnor. Havertine allowed only one hit and one walk and struck out three in a dominant three innings.

The Radnor offense did its job in the top of the 12th with Hayden Goldenberg’s go-ahead single and Caden Szychulski’s two-run home run. Those were the blows that allowed Radnor to take the win in the first game.

The Panthers offense was stopped by Havertine today. A Ralph Lardieri single and Zach Milligan walk were the notable outcomes for Haven.

For Haven, Patrick Burke started and pitched the final three innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and a walk, while also striking out five.

Radnor’s 12th innings offensive heroics got them the win in this pitcher’s duel.

In the second game, it was another great pitchers duel between the Raptors and Panthers led by Blake Havertine, Jack Ertel, and Sean Mutschler. Havertine started the game for Radnor and hurled three strong innings. He struck out two while allowing a run on three hits and two walks. Ertel backed his efforts and was awarded the win. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed three hits and a walk, but no runs were scored. The final two outs of the game were recorded by Mutscheler and he didn’t allow anything.

Offensively for the Raptors today, Matt Medina and Ertel led the charge. Medina went 2-2 with a walk in today’s matchup. Ertel went 1-2 with an RBI.

After Austin Havertine’s double and an error to start the bottom of the fourth, Blake Fein’s groundout allowed Havertine to score to tie the game at 1-1. From there, Radnor added on another run a batter later and prevailed from there.

For Haven today, Will Taylor and Atticus Bean had the hottest bats in the contest. Taylor went 2-2 with a walk and RBI. Bean went 1-3 with a run scored.

The lone run for the Panthers came on Taylor’s first inning RBI single that scored Bean. 

As for the pitching staff, Patrick Burke started, followed by Quinn Kell, and Patrick Tolson. Burke pitched two innings. He allowed one hit and struck out three. Kell pitched three innings in relief and allowed a two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks, while also striking out two. Finally, it was Tolson who took the mound for an inning. He walked two and struck out one.

A quiet offensive day for both squads opened the door for a fantastic pitchers duel.

Next up for both teams, the 9-5-1 (9-3 in CL) Radnor Raptors stay home and play host to Marple tomorrow. On the other hand, the 6-10 (5-7 in CL) Strath Haven Panthers head back home for their senior night game against Harriton.

Haverford 6, Garnet Valley 0

The Fords came out swinging and never looked back. Behind a huge day at the plate from Jimmy Boyle and a dominant performance on the mound by Lucas Rothstein, the Fords shut out the Jags. I’m not sure anyone is going to stop Haverford at this point. They remain unbeaten in Central League play and I don’t know if that is going to change anytime soon. 

Boyle was the star of the show today, blasting two home runs and driving in three runs to lead the offensive charge. He got things going early with a solo shot in the third, then put the game even further out of reach with another blast in the sixth. 

The Fords struck first in the second inning when Bobby Menear ripped a double to bring home the first run. From there, the Fords kept applying pressure and runs while Rothstein dominated. 

Rothstein, the West Chester commit, set the tone right away. He allowed only three hits in 4.1 IP and struck out three. That is what makes Haverford so powerful. If you aren’t facing Jimmy Boyle, you are most likely facing Rothstein, Rocco Kelleher, or Sean MacGillivray, all dominant arms. Gavin Andrewson came in out of the bullpen and answered the call, tossing 2.2 shutout innings to earn the save and secure the win. 

Asher Weingarten started for the Jags. Dylann Orr also came in out of the bullpen. Connor Criswell finished it out for Garnet and pitched 1.1 shutout innings. 

At the plate, the Fords had nine hits. Boyle, Shane Durkan, and Sam Sturman all had multi-hit games. Durkan and Sturman with doubles. Zach Gordon provided a bright spot for Garnet Valley, going 2-3. Defensively both teams were also very sharp. 

The Fords (12-0 in CL) will aim to keep on winning as they face the Lower Merion Aces (5-7 in CAL) tomorrow. The Jaguars (7-5) face Upper Darby (0-12 in CAL) tomorrow hoping to get back on track.

Springfield 7, Marple Newtown 6

This game was CHAOTIC.

Springfield jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Danny Meakim ground out in the first, but Marple put two on the board with a Jackson Burger RBI triple and a Kevin Agger single in the first.

Kevin Agger’s RBI double had Marple Newtown ahead 3-1, but the Cougars would fight back. First it was a Landon Ragan solo homer to cut the lead to 3-2, and then all hell broke loose.

Kai Scheetz was called to pinch hit in the top of the sixth for Springfield, and he came through in a massive way with a two-run double to flip the script and put Springfield ahead 4-3. Later in the inning with two outs, Jake Lennon delivered a big two-run single to extend that Cougar lead to 6-3.

A two-run Jordan DiPinto single made it a one-run game for Marple, but they still trailed heading into the seventh.

With two outs and John Matthews on first base in the bottom of the seventh, Zach Marro came up massive with a double to score Matthews all the way from first and tie this game up on their last breath.

Springfield has played in a ton of tight games and plenty of extra inning games, so they were ready for this. Sean O’Reilly ripped a triple to lead off the top of the eighth inning. Following a groundout, Nolan Dulski flew out to center field to allow O’Reilly to score and put Springfield ahead 8-7.

TJ Valletti looked to close out the Marple Newtown offense and he retired the first two hitters. Jackson Burger then had what looked to be an extra base hit to put the tying runner in scoring position, but according to DBN’s Ben Thorpe, took too big of a turn rounding second and was backpicked coming back to the bag.

GameChanger does not do a great job explaining what happened there, but we know that final out came on the basepaths.

Owen Keough and TJ Valletti had two hits in the win for Springfield. Landan Ragan threw three innings with one hit and two earned runs allowed with two strikeouts. TJ Valletti threw the final 2.2 innings with one earned run and five strikeouts.

Cole Buckley, Jackson Burger and Kevin Agger all had two hits in the loss for Marple. Burger also threw five innings with five strikeouts and three runs allowed.

Springfield remains in third place in the Central League as they improve to 8-4. They will host Penncrest on our Delco Baseball Now Game of The Week streaming at 3:45 on Thursday on YouTube.

As for Marple Newtown, they fall to 4-8 and are hanging on by a thread in the playoff race. They made it last year at 6-10, so you never know. They will host Radnor on Thursday for their next game.

Conestoga 5, Lower Merion 1

The up-and-down ride continued for Conestoga, but on Wednesday, it worked out in their favor… (they lost their last game so it makes sense.)

The Pioneers, who’ve seemingly made a habit this season of alternating wins and losses, kept that pattern just enough to take care of business with a 5-1 victory over Lower Merion at South Ardmore Park. In a game that sat deadlocked for much of the afternoon, Conestoga found a boost of offense late, and this time, they didn’t give it back.

They wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, as Landon Jones delivered an RBI single to put the Pioneers ahead early. Lower Merion answered right back in the bottom half, with Nick Dragut knocking a single to left to even things up at 1-1. And then… things got quiet.

For four-plus innings, both sides traded zeros, with pitchers settling in and neither lineup able to break through. That stalemate finally cracked in the top of the sixth, and once it did, Conestoga made sure it stayed broken.

Jones came through again, ripping a go-ahead double to give the Pioneers a 2-1 edge. Just a batter later, Josh Lee added to the momentum with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 3-1 and giving Conestoga some much-needed breathing room.

They weren’t done.

The Pioneers tacked on two more runs in the seventh to fully put the game out of reach, capping a late offensive surge that for them, was honestly a must win game.

On the mound for Stoga, Brendan Soura delivered a strong outing, going 6.1 innings while allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out three and walked one, controlling the pace and keeping Lower Merion from building any real offense. Liam Scheffer came on in relief to help shut the door.

At the plate, Jones led the charge from the heart of the lineup, driving in three runs and finishing 2-for-4. 

He, along with Soura, also collected two hits apiece as part of the offensive effort. The Pioneers were aggressive on the basepaths all game, as well, swiping seven bases, with Fill Nieberle and Brendan Soura each grabbing multiple steals.

Lower Merion saw a strong day from Dragut, who went 3-for-4 and drove in their lone run, but couldn’t generate enough offense beyond that to keep pace once Conestoga broke through late.

Conestoga keeps themselves alive in the playoff race as they improve to 5-7 in the CL. They will host Ridley for a massive game on Thursday.

As for Lower Merion, they also now sit at 5-7 in the CL and will host Haverford on Thursday for their next contest.

Penncrest 12, Harriton 0

Well, Penncrest got their revenge from earlier on in the season this afternoon with a dominant win over the Rams.

It’s almost as if both these teams completely swapped places from opening day to now. Penncrest extended their winning streak to three, and it feels as if everything is going wrong right now for Harriton, who have now lost six in a row. 

We knew Penncrest was coming in hungry after a 13-3 loss on opening day. It was pretty much the opposite game for both teams. In the first showing Harriton tacked on 8 hits and 13 runs, while the Lions only had 6 hits across 3 runs. Today Penncrest’s offense exploded with 10 hits and 12 runs while shutting the Rams out. 

The Lions got going right away after Austin Younger doubled, scoring two. They then continued things in the top of third after Young walked, and Jeremy Schneider hit a sac fly, both of those scoring a run. 

And guess what, they kept on coming. In the top of the fourth they scored five runs on four hits. Henry Murphy singled which drove in two, Andrew Luber-Solic doubled, also scoring two. Schneider also doubled driving in one more. 

By this point it was 9-0 and Harrtion truly could not get anything going. They only had three baserunners the entire game. Eli Bloch and Sam Bohnenkamp each had a hit. 

Gavin Bell drove in two more in the top of fifth on a single, and Luber – Solic doubled for a second time, scoring Bell. Luber – Solic and Murphy each had two hits and Luber – Solic had three RBI’s leading the Lions. 

Henry Murphy started the game for the Lions, and Braden Davis came into relief. Both pitched very well with their stat lines below:

Penncrest (8-4 in CL) will travel to Springfield (8-4) tomorrow as both teams look to keep on turning heads in our game of the week on YouTube. Harriton (3-9) will look to get back in the win column against Strath Haven (5-6) 

Ridley 10, Upper Darby 0:

This is Ridley’s fourth win in a row, and they’re building serious momentum down the stretch.

The Raiders kept the good times rolling Wednesday, erupting for a 10-0 win over Upper Darby, using a massive fifth inning to turn a comfortable lead into a runaway. Already in control, Ridley slammed the door with a six-run show that showcased points at just the right time.

They got things started early, scratching across a run in the first on a fielder’s choice from Brendan Soper to take the lead. In the second, they added on with a pair of sacrifice flies off the bats of Luke Ladislaw and Logan Bubb, making it 3-0 and setting the tone.

From there, Ridley stayed aggressive, waiting for the big inning to arrive.

It came in the fifth.

The Raiders sent runs across a variety of ways. Capitalizing on mistakes was a big one, though. An error brought one run in; Ladislaw followed with an RBI single, Jared Pugh added another, and yet another miscue helped plate a run. 

Tim Calamita delivered the biggest swing of the inning, though, lining a two-run single to cap the six-run explosion and push the lead to 10-0.

That was more than enough for Ridley’s pitching staff. Luke Ladislaw got the start and was dominant, tossing four shutout innings while allowing just one hit. 

Ladislaw struck out four and didn’t issue a walk, setting the tone on the mound. Charlie Humes followed with a clean inning of relief to help preserve the shutout.

At the plate, Soper and Calamita each drove in two runs, while Nick Pollag provided a spark at the top, going a perfect 2-for-2. 

Upper Darby managed just two hits on the day, one each from Tommy Chung and Jayvohn Tran, and couldn’t find any rhythm against Ridley’s pitching.

For the Raiders, it’s a team hitting its stride at the right time, and it will be interesting to see how they perform down the stretch.

Ridley has surged all the way to 6-6 in the CL, and will head to Conestoga on Thursday for a big one. As for Upper Darby, they fall to 0-12 and will head to Garnet Valley on Thursday.

Bonner 10, Judge 0

It seems like the Bonner offense is really starting to find its groove, and in this one, eight runs in the bottom of the fourth was their reward.

Ryan Friel and Luke Albarano both had two hits and drove in a run in the win. Jack Coleman, Gavin DiRita, Owen Lockhart, Manny Gibbs and Chase D’Ambrosio all had hits while driving in a run as well for the Friars.

On the mound, Danny Buckton continued a very strong second half of the season with five shutout innings and seven strikeouts while allowing just four hits. If these guys are going to make any type of run, Buckton on the mound will be the driving force.

Bonner improves to 5-5 in the PCL, and with a win against Lansdale Catholic on Monday, would be in a very good spot to avoid playing in the wild card round.

The Friars were the #6 seed last year and won the whole thing, and they may very well be the #6 seed again. These guys have been there before.

Their next game in general is Saturday at noon at Rutgers-Camden against The Haverford School.

O’Hara 7, Roman 5

It was gut check time for O’Hara as they were sitting at 3-7 in the PCL coming into this game, but they won a massive game to keep their PCL playoff chances alive.

It was a well-balanced attack for the Lions as 8/9 starters had a hit. Jake Steigerwalt had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the way, while Colin Thomas led had two hits out of the leadoff spot. Jack Quinn and Connor Clark both had a hit and drove in two runs.

Roman scored two in the top of the second before O’Hara responded back with three in the second before adding three more on in the fourth.

Adam Schreiber threw the first three innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts.

Michael Brown, John Welde and Padraig MacManus all threw well in relief to close out the win.

O’Hara improves to 4-7 in the PCL and will have just one more PCL game to play when they host La Salle next Wednesday. Still too early to tell if they are in or out of the playoffs, but they most likely will have to win that one to get in I would think.

Their next game in general will be Saturday at home vs Conestoga.

Devon Prep 7, Lansdale Catholic 2

Liam Jung had it all working today for the Tide.

The righty was in full control on the mound, going all seven innings while striking out 12 with just one earned run allowed.

Devon Prep started this game off with a bang, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first of those coming off the bat of freshman Joe Gabrielle, who has been a huge boost to this lineup after being called up from JV.

Alex Hannah and Ryan Wheeler also both had RBI singles in the first, with Wheeler’s driving in two.

Gabrielle ended up with two hits while driving in three runs on the day. Alex Hannah, Caleb Tesfaye and Wheeler all had two hits.

Devon Prep has been playing much better lately after a slow start as they have won three of their last four in the PCL. They are in a playoff position as of right now sitting at 4-6, and they will host St. Joe’s Prep on Monday for their next PCL game.

Sun Valley 2, West Chester East 0

Sun Valley’s season may pretty much be over in terms of their chances of making the playoffs, but these two wins in a row after a season of growing sure feels good.

Riley Comisiak was the star of this one. He threw six shutout innings with five hits allowed and one strikeout. He also only walked one as well.

The Vanguards got on the board first in the bottom of the first after Jaden Comisiak scored on a wild pitch after reaching base with a single.

Daniel Miller’s sac fly in the third drove in Logan Howe for the second and final run of the game for Sun Valley.

With a 2-0 lead going into the seventh, Ryan Messick was brought in for the save, and he struck out all three hitters that he faced to lock down the win.

Sun Valley improves to 3-11 in the Del Val as they have won two games this week. They will host Great Valley on Friday looking to go 3-0 in the conference.

Penn Charter 6, Friends Central 2

Penn Charter handled Friends’ Central at home today thanks to an excellent pitching performance by eighth grader Royal Spurlark. The starter gave up two hits and two runs while striking out six in a complete game. 

BJ Hall and Nate Hartman each recorded two hits for Penn Charter, while Friends’ Central only had two hits as a team. Both Phoenix runs were scored on wild pitches, one in the first inning and one in the seventh inning.

Friends’ Central took a step back in the field with five total defensive errors. The team had been on a roll defensively but nothing clicked today at Penn Charter.

Fisher Haggerty and Gavin Yeager both pitched well, and only three of the team’s six runs were earned. Haggerty started and struck out four batters over three innings, while Yeager entered in relief and struck out six batters in three innings.

Penn Charter is now on a three-game win streak and they improve to 6-12 on the season. They stay at home to play Haverford in an Inter-Ac matchup on Friday. 

Friends’ Central falls to 12-10 and will return home to play Lansdale Catholic on Saturday in their final game before the upcoming Friends Schools League playoffs.

Plumstead Christian 3, Delco Christian 1

Delco Christian has hit a bit of a cold streak of late.

The Knights have now dropped three in a row, with their offense only pushing one run across in this one.

Funny enough, all four runs in this game were scored in the first inning. Plumstead scored all three of their runs in the top of the first, and Delco Christian scored their lone run in the bottom of the first.

After a two-out single, Nathan Burd would steal second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then snag home on a wild pitch as well for the Knights’ run.

Matteo DeBellis, Justin Ma and Micah Dutton also had hits in the loss for Delco Christian.

Both pitchers threw well for the Knights. DeBellis allowed one earned run over four innings with five strikeouts, while Josiah Lyren threw three shutout innings in relief with three strikeouts.

Delco Christian falls to 5-3 in the Bicentennial League and will head to Jenkintown on Friday for another conference matchup.

They say that baseball is a marathon and not a sprint, but in the Inter-Ac, that’s not really the case.

The conference season is just ten games, playing each other team twice. There are no league playoffs (lame) so whatever team finishes with the best record wins the league. Even if that means multiple champions (extra lame).

It is true that all the Inter-Ac teams are dropped into the same PAISAA State Tournament that is independent from the PIAA state tournament and also has some other teams like Friends Central, Shipley, Westtown, Perkiomen and more. It is typically an Inter-Ac team that wins that title, but still, it’s nice to have a conference title game like the PCL and the Friends Schools League.

Regardless, with today’s win over The Haverford School paired with Episcopal’s loss to Germantown Academy, Malvern Prep is in the driver’s seat to win another league title.

Malvern Prep 7, Haverford School 1

This game was quiet through the first three innings with both Malvern Prep’s Jack Herbein and Haverford’s Gabe Danisi trading zeroes, but Malvern exploded for seven runs in the middle innings to take over this game.

In the top of the fourth, Grady Forsberg singled in Jackson Melconian, who is fully back from injury, and singled to reach base. After a Bryan Cogliano base hit, Cole Scarbinsky blew this game open with a three-run homer to make it 4-0 Friars.

Forsberg struck again in the top of the fifth, this time with a two-run single to score Brady Abate who was hit by a pitch and Jackson Melconian who walked.

Haverford scored their lone run of the game on a Caleb Siever sac fly to score Danny Getz.

Cole Scarbinsky ended up with four runs batted in on the day, while Forsberg had three. Bryan Cogliano had three hits and Tommy Sergio walked three times.

Jack Herbein scattered six hits across seven innings with just one earned run allowed and six strikeouts. Even with a lineup that features an NC State recruit, a Wake Forest recruit and a Vanderbilt recruit, the unbelievable starting pitching has been what has made this team tick all year whether it be Herbein, the Romanczuk brothers, Paul DiBona, Tyler Ryan, Kayden Wallace, you name it.

For the Fords, Matt Borden threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief with just a hit allowed and two strikeouts. Danny Getz and Braydon Scanlan both had two hits.

Malvern now sits at 6-1 in the Inter-Ac and will need to go 0-3 over their last three games to not earn a share of the Inter-Ac title. I think there’s a better chance that I hit a triple in my MSBL game this Sunday than that happening. They will travel to Episcopal on Friday for their next game.

As for Haverford, they have now lost four in a row after a 12-4 start and are 3-4 in the Inter-Ac. They will travel to Penn Charter on Friday for their next game.

Chichester 18, Chester 0

The Chichester left fielder reached base all four times, including a double and a homer, while driving in six runs.

Chichester scored in each of their four plate appearances; they scored seven in the first, four in the second, one in the third and six in the fourth. Logan Werley drove in three runs on two hits, while Luke Werley also drove in two runs and pitched two scoreless innings. Josh Stephenson drove in two runs as well.

On the mound, Chichester also got scoreless innings from Zach Murray and Cole Sanford. Bryant Smith had the lone hit on the day for Chester.

Chichester continues their Del Val dominance as they improve to 10-0. Next up for them is a home game against Penn Wood.

Chester falls to 4-5 in the Del Val and will look to rebound on Thursday at Interboro.

Academy Park 10, Penn Wood 0

Sean Murphy has been excellent on the mound this season for Academy Park, and this may be his best work yet.

Murphy did not allow a hit over five innings in this game, striking out 11 Penn Wood hitters in the process.

Academy Park scored in all five of their at bats. They got two in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. A very well-balanced offense.

Lucas Gilbert drove in two runs in the win. Gilbert, Zahmir Latimore and Zion Abney all had hits. The Academy Park defense also did not make an error in this one either.

For Penn Wood, Anthony Amoroso threw 3.1 innings with one earned run and eight strikeouts in the loss.

Academy Park improves to 2-7 in the Del Val and will be off until next Tuesday when they host Chester. As for Penn Wood, they fall to 1-8 in the Del Val and will head to Chichester on Thursday.

Friends Central 2, Central 1

Friends’ Central came up with a closer-than-expected win at home over Central today. Lucas Abreu was able to outduel Drew Steiner in an intense pitching showdown.

Abreu has been on the most incredible stretch of his high school career, and at the right time for Friends’ Central. Today he threw five innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out five on the mound. The senior also had the Phoenix’s only extra base hit, stole three bases, and scored both of the home team’s runs.

Abreu’s first run was scored after he forced a throwing error by the catcher when stealing third. The throw reached the outfield, and the speedster claimed his free base. The second run was knocked in by freshman slugger Blake Davis in the fourth inning.

On the other side, Steiner was effective but ultimately earned the loss. He pounded the strike zone, throwing 73 pitches in his 6 innings of work. 

Several clutch defensive moments defined the win for Friends’ Central. Miles Mammele’s glove has been a magnet in right field as of late, and he showed off his arm today as well. The freshman recorded an outfield assist on a throw to the plate to gun down what would have been the go-ahead runner in the second inning.

In the sixth inning, the Phoenix brought in David Manfre to secure the save. Manfre did exactly that, going two innings, allowing only one baserunner on an error, and striking out three. The Phoenix improve to 12-9 on the season and travel to Penn Charter Wednesday for what should be another close non-conference matchup.

Germantown Academy 3, Episcopal 1

Germantown put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third, and that was ultimately all that they would need to jump into a tie for second place in the Inter-Ac with Episcopal.

Episcopal scored their lone run on a Baxter Schuh sac fly in the top of the fourth to answer the three runs from GA, but that was all that they could get in this one.

Ty Cohen had two hits in the loss for EA. Dillon Walls and Trey Schwaninger also had hits for the Churchmen.

Both pitchers threw well for EA. Hunter West allowed three runs over four innings with five strikeouts while Charlie Smith threw two scoreless and hitless innings in relief.

If Episcopal wants any chance of winning the league, they have to beat Malvern Prep on Friday at home to do so as they now sit at 4-3.

In terms of pure chaos, this was definitely one of the more chaotic days that we have had in the area this season.

From walk-off wins to ferocious rallies, this slate of 12 games had a ton of action to recap with the majority of teams fighting for their playoff lives.

Let’s dive into it:

Garnet Valley 5, Springfield 4

Today saw a wealth of great Central League games, and Garnet Valley against Springfield did not disappoint. In one of the longer games someone can witness, Garnet Valley stole the win in the bottom of the tenth inning on a Zach Gordon walkoff double.

Springfield surged early, scoring all four of their runs in the first three innings. Ryan McGhee started for Garnet Valley and pounded the strike zone while giving up two earned runs, two unearned runs, and seven hits in six innings. Despite a shaky start, McGhee’s efficiency and ability to stay in the game for the long haul gave Garnet Valley an advantage.

Jack Rae took the mound for Springfield and performed well, allowing two runs in four innings of work. When Rae was taken out of the game, Garnet Valley found their chance to strike.

Entering the bottom of the sixth, the Jaguars had a two-run deficit, but they did not skip a beat. With two outs and no one on, Garnet Valley strung together four great plate appearances. Zach Gordon walked, Kyle Klein was hit by a pitch, Brandon Capone walked, and Garret Hosterman capitalized on the two-out rally by lining a two-run single into center field to tie the game. 

Tied at four, the scoring stalled in the seventh, and the game entered extra innings. No team could put up a run on the board until the bottom of the tenth, when Zach Gordon drove in Ashton Yau on a double to give Garnet Valley the comeback victory.

Not often you see a 10-inning thriller in high school baseball!

Garnet Valley inches closer to a playoff spot as they are now 7-4 in the Central League. Next up for them will be a date with first place Haverford at home on Wednesday.

As for Springfield, they have built themselves up some breathing room as they fall to 7-4. They will head to Marple Newtown on Wednesday looking to get back on track.

Ridley 8, Strath Haven 7

A perfect day for baseball set the stage for this Central League battle between Strath Haven and Ridley. In walkoff fashion, Ridley took home the win in a great fight against Haven.

Today for the Raiders, Jake Mansfield and Brendan Soper led the offensive charge. Mansfield went 3-4 including three hits, two RBI’s, and one run scored. Soper went 1-2 on the day with single, two RBI’s, and a run scored.

In the bottom of the third, Jayden Davis walked with the bases loaded to get the scoring started for Ridley. After that, Ridley went on to score six unanswered runs before Haven tied it up once again in the sixth.

The knock that sent the Ridley fans home happy occurred in the bottom of the seventh with one out. Nick Pollag singled home Mansfield for the walkoff win.

As for the Ridley pitching staff, it was Jake Mansfield, Brendan Soper, Ariol Cocaj, and Jayden Davis.

Mansfield started the day by going two innings, allowing one run to score on three hits and one walk. Following Mansfield came Soper. Soper also pitched two innings, but allowed four runs on two hits and two walks. Next it was Cocaj with 1.2 innings of work.

He was solid and only allowed one run on three hits and three walks. Finally, Davis pitched the final 1.1 innings and was awarded the win. He allowed no hits or runs, struck out two, and walked one. There was a run that scored, but not at Davis’ expense.

For Haven today, it was Patrick O’Connor and Patrick Burke. O’Connor went 2-3 with two hits, a walk, and run scored. Burke went 1-2 with a single, walk, run scored, and RBI.

Patrick Tolson got the bats going early for the Panthers in the top of the second. He grounded into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded and got the runner home.

On the mound, Jasper Hals, Travis McDonough, and Quinn Kell each made appearances. Hals started by going 2.1 innings. Hals allowed four runs, four hits, walked three, and struck out four. In relief, McDonough pitched a solid inning. He didn’t allow anyone to score, but he walked one and allowed two hits. Next, Kell pitched three 3 innings. He pitched well but was ultimately handed the loss in the game. Kell allowed two runs (one earned), allowed one walk, and allowed three Raiders to reach base via a knock.

It was a great late season battle, but in the end Ridley took the game on a seventh inning walkoff base hit. 

Next for both teams, the Strath Haven Panthers (5-5 in CL) will take on Radnor on the road on Wednesday. They will look to complete two games as they resume their early season game in extra innings before starting the second game.

Also on Wednesday, Ridley (5-6 in CL) will once again be the host of a Central League matchup as they welcome in Upper Darby.

Haverford 6, Marple Newtown 3

Haverford’s five-run bottom of the sixth narrowly pushed them over Marple Newtown today in a thrilling Central League Matchup.

Marple Newtown struck in the top of the first thanks to a single by Seth Pancoast. Sean MacGillivray started for the Fords, and he was able to bounce back to get out of the inning with limited damage after the early scare.

In the bottom of the second, Haverford fought back and scored a run of their own via a single by Andrew Brown that scored Gavin Andrewson. Carter Patterson started for Marple Newtown and walked seven, but was able to escape, allowing only that run in 2.1 innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Tigers broke the tie and took a 3-1 lead. A hit by pitch and a double set up Kevin Agger to knock in two runners on a single. Marple Newtown was in a good spot entering the sixth inning with a two-run lead, but the Fords wouldn’t go down easily.

Bobby Menear cut the lead to one with one out in the inning, then he was driven in by Shane Durkan along with Owen Klick, who walked. With their newly gained lead, the Fords kept their foot on the gas pedal. Sam Sturman lined a two-run double to left field to set the Fords’ lead in stone.

Entering the game in relief, Rocco Kelleher shut down Marple Newtown and earned the win. The righty retired every single batter he faced and struck out five. The Tigers gave the Fords a scare on their own field, but Haverford walked out with the victory.

Haverford improves to 11-0 in the Central League and are two wins away from clinching at least a share of the Central League title. Next up for them is a road game with Garnet Valley on Wednesday.

As for Marple Newtown, they fall to 4-7 in the Central League and will host Springfield on Wednesday for their next game.

Radnor 3, Conestoga 2

Wow, what a showing with 13 strikeouts for the reigning Delco Baseball Now MVP and Cy Young winner Austin Havertine.

It was yet another game defined by outstanding pitching on both sides this afternoon.

A single by Caden Szychulski put Radnor on the board first in the top of the second. Remarkably, no one scored again until the top of the seventh. Blake Havertine reached on an error, and Daniel Kellis followed with a walk. Hayden Goldenberg then delivered the big blow, driving a double deep to center field to bring home two runs. 

Conestoga, down to their final three outs, didn’t go quietly. Landon Jones sparked the rally with a double to left, and Luke Hunter reached on an error. Brendan Soura then scorched a double to deep center, driving in two and bringing the game within reach with a runner aboard and no outs. 

But Blake Havertine shut the door, recording three straight outs to earn the save.

Nolan Campbell started the game for the Pioneers. He went 2.0 IP and struck out four on two hits and one earned run. Liam Scheffer pitched 4.0 innings in relief and only allowed two hits and struck out two. 

We saw both the Heck brothers today for Lower Merion, and guess what, we saw both the Havertine’s.

Austin began the game and as mentioned before struck out 13 batters, and allowed four hits and one earned run all over 6.0 IP.  Blake Havertine was efficient in his lone inning of work, getting the save while only throwing 7 pitches. 

Jack Ertel had two stolen bases for the Raptors, and Szychulski, Austin Havertine, Goldenberg, Quigley, and Mutschler each had a base knock. Josh Lee led the way for the Pioneers with two hits. 

Next up for Conestoga (4-7 in CL) is a game against Lower Merion on Wednesday who they will look to beat for the second time this season. For the Raptors (7-3), they will host Strath Haven. It’s important to note that both those teams still have to resume their early season nine inning game that is still tied 1-1.

Lower Merion 3, Harriton 1

It was a community- wide event at South Ardmore Park today as district rivals met for their yearly showing. I think it’s safe to say both these teams had this game circled on their calendar. 

Last year Lower Merion crushed the Rams in a 10-1 game highlighted by a Toby Myers two home run game and a Brian Heck elite shove day. Unfortunately this year the Rams could still not get the job done even with their ace, Sam Bohnenkamp, on the bump. 

Brian Heck got the start for the second year in a row setting the stage for a true pitchers duel. He even became the school’s all time strikeout leader with 125 strikeouts and counting. What a career for him. With two very sharp guys on the mound, the offense for both sides was slow for the first two and a half innings. With two outs, the Aces began to rally as Nicholas Dragut singled to right. Charlie Parsons followed with a walk, and Justin Heck came through with a single to center to bring in the first run. A bad throw allowed another runner to score, giving the Aces a spark. 

Down 2-0, Harriton needed an answer and it wasn’t going to be easy with the other Heck brother, Justin Heck, in for relief. Luckily they got one from their catcher Gaven Bowman who smashed a homer deep over the left field fence narrowing the lead to one. 

Things stayed quiet again until the bottom of the fifth, when Charlie Parsons sparked the offense with a single. Justin Heck came up once again and lined a single to right, bringing in another run which was again aided by a throwing error. Harriton could not put anything else together to try and rally late.

Eli Bloch had the other lone hit for the Rams, aside from Bowman’s dinger. It’s clear if Harriton wants to compete in any type of postseason play, they need the offense to wake up right about now with the season running out. Justin Heck and Dragut each collected two hits for the Aces. 

As expected, the pitching was the main storyline for both sides. For the Aces, Brian Heck 2.2 IP and only allowed one hit and struck out four. Justin Heck went 3.0 IP and only allowed one hit as well, also striking out four. Peyton Spiegler earned the save. Bohnenkamp went 4.1 IP, gave up two earned runs and fanned six. Nate Swalley in 1.2 IP of relief struck out four batters on one hit. 

This was a very good win for the Aces (5-6 in CL), as they try to keep tacking on late season wins. They seek revenge as they take on Conestoga this Wednesday who they lost to 8-6 on March 19th. The Rams (3-8) will face Penncrest also on Wednesday who they shocked early in the season with a 13-3 win.

Penncrest 13, Upper Darby 1

Penncrest took full control of this game with nine runs in the top of the second and never looked back.

The Lions continued a resurgent 2026 season with a 13-1 win over Upper Darby. With two more Central League games this week, they did a good job at saving their arms:

Jeremy Schneider: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 K

Andrew Luber-Solic: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 K

Sergio Hernandez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER

Jonas Punzo: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 K

On the offensive side of the ball, Jeremy Schneider also homered and drove in two runs. Sander Robinson and Braden Davis both drove in two runs as well, with Davis’ coming on a triple.

Gavin Bell had two hits including a double and was hit by a pitch. He drove in a run, as did Sergio Hernandez, Michael Simone, Henry Murphy and Austin Younger.

Tommy Chung had the lone hit in the loss for the Royals. Jack Trask threw two scoreless innings of relief as well.

Penncrest improves to 7-4 in the Central League, virutally a win away from officially clinching a playoff spot. They will take on Harriton on Wednesday on the road and look to get some revenge after a mercy rule opening day loss.

Upper Darby falls to 0-11 in the Central League and will head to Ridley on Wednesday for their next game.

Bonner 13, Carroll 7:

With their season hanging on by a thread, Bonner needed their offense to truly wake up in order to survive.

They did.

Trailing 7-1 in this one in the bottom of the fifth, Bonner would score 12 unanswered runs to take down Carroll and give themselves a massive boost in their PCL playoff odds.

Duke recruit Bennett Bishop had the Bonner hitters off balance for three innings, but the Friar bats woke up against the bullpen.

Cole Romano homered and drove in four in the win for Bonner. Sean Erickson, Jack Brown and Gavin DiRita all drove in two runs. Coleman, DiRita, Erickson and Luke Albarano all had two hits as well.

Jack Coleman and Owen Lockhart both threw well. Coleman allowed three earned runs over four innings with two strikeouts and Lockhart allowed three earned runs over three innings to get the win on the mound.

For Carroll, Gavin Moore homered and drove in two runs. Dan McNally and Shane Panichi also drove in two runs while McNally and Nick Gilroy had two hits.

There’s really no sugar coating this one and how much it stings for Carroll. They scored six in the top of the fifth to go up 7-1 just to give it right back in a game that they really needed.

Bonner improves to 4-5 in the PCL and will take on Judge at home for their next game. As for Carroll, they fall to 3-7 and will host Frankford on Friday for a non-conference game.

Sun Valley 15, Unionville 7

This one surely feels good for the Vanguards.

Sun Valley snapped an eleven game losing streak with this win, and they did it by scoring ten runs in the top of the fourth against Unionville, the second time this season that they scored more than ten runs in an inning against Unionville.

Daniel Miller led the way on offense as he had four hits and drove in two runs.

It’s a pretty long list of Vanguard hitters who drove in multiple runs:

On the mound, Austin Miazza allowed just six hits and three earned runs across 4.1 innings with six strikeouts.

Sun Valley’s win improves them to 2-11 in the Ches-Mont, and they will host West Chester East on Wednesday for their next game.

St. Joe’s Prep 5, O’Hara 0

University of Miami recruit Chris Grasso is one of the best pitchers in the area for St. Joe’s Prep, and he was feeling it in this one.

Grasso struck out 11 over 6.2 innings with just one hit allowed and three walks. Colin Thomas had the lone hit on the day for O’Hara and was also hit by two pitches to reach base three times.

Jack Quinn threw well in the loss for O’Hara, allowing two earned runs over five innings with four strikeouts.

O’Hara is hanging on for dear life as they fall to 3-7 in the PCL. Next up for them is a home game against Roman Catholic which is virtually a must win game.

Dock Mennonite 6, Interboro 5

It’s hard to find a bigger gut punch than what happened to Interboro today.

Leading 5-2 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, it looked like the Bucs had this one wrapped up. But Dock got a walk, a single, and then Brayden Kratz launched a three-run homer to left field to tie it up just like that.

And, yes, that is the son of former Phillies catcher Erik Kratz, who is the Head Coach of this team.

Dock would go on to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth to take home the win.

Anthony Gentile had two hits and drove in two runs for Interboro in the loss. Kaiden Whalen also had two hits and drove in a run. Austin Dean had two hits while Joel Sheridan had a hit and drove in a run.

Jaxson Munro pitched well in the loss for the Bucs, allowing four earned runs on six hits over 6.2 innings with five strikeouts.

The bright side here for Interboro is that this was not a conference game, so it does not affect their playoff odds. Still, it sucks, no doubt about it.

Interboro falls to 10-5 and will look to rebound on Thursday when they host Chester.

Westtown 10, Delco Christian 0

This game was closer than the score indicated as Westtown pulled away with two in the sixth and five in the seventh, not that it makes it any better for Delco Christian.

Nathan Burd, Gabe DiGregorio, Josiah Lyren and Micah Dutton had hits in the loss for Delco Christian.

Defense plagued the Knights in this one as they allowed ten runs but only four were earned. Maden Longley allowed just two earned runs over 5.2 innings with two strikeouts. Andrew Dell allowed two earned runs and two hits over 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

Delco Christian falls to 6-7 with the loss, but this was not a conference game so it does not affect their playoff odds. They will host Plumstead Christian on Wednesday for their next game.

Neumann-Goretti 10, Devon Prep 0

Devon Prep had some momentum coming off a 2-0 week where they took down Bonner and Judge, but this one was all Neumann-Goretti.

The Saints scored two in the first, three in the third, fourth in the fourth and one in the fifth to win this one in mercy rule fashion.

Joe Gabrielle had the lone hit on the day for the Tide as he has emerged as nice middle of the order piece for them. The Tide made five errors on the day, with five of the ten runs allowed being unearned.

Devon Prep is still in the race as they sit at 3-6 in the PCL, but this one definitely stings. They’ll look to move past it when they host Lansdale Catholic on Monday in a must-win game.

It’s no secret that Ridley and Interboro is one of the biggest rivalries in Delco.

Most people typically look at the annual Thanksgiving football game, but that rivalry carries over into other sports as well.

In this game, however, these two teams came together. This was a breast cancer awareness game to honor the life of Nicole Munro, the mother of Interboro infielder Jaxson Munro, a Prendie alum who passed just before the season started on March 6th after a battle with metastatic breast cancer.

One of the best parts about running this website and account is seeing the community come together when needed. These two teams may not like each other on the field, but the respect for something bigger than baseball is what it’s all about.

Ridley 11, Interboro 0

On the field, this game was all Ridley, as they got some revenge after Interboro took them down last season.

The Raiders put up six runs on Interboro starter Joel Sheridan and knocked him out before he recorded an out. That included a two-run single from Jayden Carney, an RBI single from Brendan Soper, a two-run single from Evan Nangle and an RBI triple from Connor Callahan in consecutive at bats.

Logan Bubb knocked in the seventh run of the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead.

The Ridley offense obviously came to play, but their pitching did the same as well.

Jayden Davis, who typically works behind the plate, struck out four batters and retired all six that he faced on the mound. Ariol Cocaj, Jayden Carney, and Luke Ladislaw all threw hitless innings to finish off a five inning combined no-hitter.

Soper had two hits on the day, while Carney, Callahan, Ladislaw and Nangle (3) all drove in multiple runs.

Ridley has been playing much better baseball of late, winning four of their last five. They are still very much alive in the playoff race as they sit at 4-6 in the CL and 5-8 overall. Next up for them will be a home game against Strath Haven.

As for Interboro, Jaxson Munro threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts. Munro and Sheridan walked and Chase Norbeck was hit by a pitch for their baserunners in the loss.

The Bucs, who are still sitting at 7-2 in the Del Val, fall to 10-3 overall and will host Chester on Thursday for their next game.

Bonner 4, Episcopal 3

Every time you think that Bonner’s season is over, they come back with a win like this.

Bonner had lost four in a row and Episcopal had won seven in a row, so naturally, Bonner took this one on the road to end both teams’ streaks.

Jake Gorman was excellent on the mound for the Friars, allowing just one earned run over 5.2 innings with three strikeouts. Gavin DiRita’s RBI triple tied the game up at 1-1 in the third, and Ryan Friel knocked him in with a single in the next at bat to take a 2-1 lead.

Reggie King’s RBI single in the fifth tied it, and the teams would trade runs in the sixth, including a Cole Romano sac fly for Bonner and a JD Amoroso double for Episcopal.

In the top of the seventh with the score tied, Jack Brown led the inning off with a single for Bonner and Jack Coleman walked. Gavin DiRita did his job with first and third, knocking in Brown on a groundout to take the lead for Bonner.

DiRita then went on the mound to close out the game, but after two walks, Owen Lockhart came in to try and get the save. He picked up a strikeout, fly out and ground out to pull a houdini act and leave with a win and strand two runners.

Ryan Friel and Jack Brown both had two hits for Bonner in the win, a game that will certainly help the confidence.

JD Amoroso and Michael Schaffer had two hits in the loss for Episcopal, with Amoroso and Reggie King driving in runs.

Dan Castro allowed two runs over three innings with four strikeouts in the loss for EA. Kyptyn Williams allowed two hits and one earned run with a strikeout in relief, and Matt Roberts allowed a run with a strikeout in 1.1 innings of work.

Bonner sits at 3-6 in the PCL but improves to 5-9 on the year overall with the win. They will host Carroll for a Delco on Delco PCL matchup Monday.

As for Episcopal, this loss ends their seven game win streak and drops them to 13-6 overall with a 4-2 Inter-Ac record. They will head to Germantown Academy on Tuesday for their next game.

O’Hara 8, Pope John Paul II 2

O’Hara had been shutout in consecutive games to start this week, but one swing by Jake Steigerwalt changed things for the Lions.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Steigerwalt belted a Grand Slam to left field to turn the tables and put the Lions up 5-2. That swing scored Joey Thompson who walked, Jack Quinn who singled and Connor Clark who was hit by a pitch.

The Lions would add three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for good measure. Jack Quinn had an RBI single to score Ben Kalichak and then Connor Clark ripped a two-run double to score Quinn and Nate Evert.

Colin Thomas was outstanding on the mound for O’Hara. He allowed just three hits and one unearned run over seven innings and struck out nine in the process while having two hits at the plate himself.

O’Hara had lost six straight games entering this one, and while it won’t affect their playoff chances, it has to feel good and got their confidence rolling again as the season winds down.

The Lions will have a tough task on Monday night when they play St. Joe’s Prep with a 7:00 start at Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey.

Carroll 9, Springside Chestnut Hill 1

For a Carroll offense that has struggled of late, that five run first inning sure had to feel good.

Ryan McGaughey got the offense on the board with a two-run double in the top of the first, scoring Ryan Hefferan and Dan McNally.

Later in the inning with two outs, Ricky Evans came up clutch with a two-run single to double that lead to 4-0. Gavin Moore would score on a passed ball to make it 5-0 before the Blue Devils even touched a bat.

Shane Panichi added on a two-run double in the fourth to extend that lead to 7-0 in an eventual 9-1 win.

Panichi had two hits to lead the way for the Pats. Panichi, Evans and McGaughey drove in two runs while Nick Gilroy and Ryan Hefferan drove in one.

On the mound, the pitching was sharp as well. Gavin Moore allowed just one hit and one unearned run in two innings. After a scoreless third from Colin Moran, Ricky Evans took it the rest of the way as he allowed two hits over four scoreless innings to get the win.

Although it doesn’t count towards the standings, that’s a great win against an Inter-Ac team. Carroll is still hanging around in the playoff mix in the PCL as they sit at 3-6, but this win improves their season record overall to 6-9.

Carroll will head to Bonner for a Delco on Delco PCL matchup Monday. That’s a big game for the PCL playoff chances for both teams.

Calvert Hall 2, Malvern Prep 1

It’s pretty rare that we write about a Malvern Prep loss, but they ran into one of the best teams in the area in Maryland’s Calvert Hall.

Calvert Hall threw six different pitchers, keeping the Friar hitters off balance all day.

Kayden Wallace started on the mound for Malvern Prep and threw well, allowing five hits and two earned runs over five innings with six strikeouts. Tyler Ryan also threw a scoreless inning.

Malvern Prep had two hits, both in the seventh inning as they almost rallied from down 2-0. 

Calvert Hall was actually one out away from a no-hitter before Jackson Melconian, who recently returned from an injury, singled to keep the game alive. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, he was driven in by Bryan Cogliano to make it 2-1.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of Calvert Hall before, but they must be doing something right if they nearly no-hit 23-4 Malvern Prep.

The Friars drop this one but still lead the Inter-Ac at 5-1. They will head to Haverford School on Tuesday for their next game. The last time these two teams met on that field, there were 11 homers in a 23-15 Malvern Prep win, so buckle up.

Michael Schaffer came onto the scene in 2024 as an eighth grader getting varsity innings for Episcopal and performing very well in the process.

He unfornately had to miss all of 2025 with an injury, but to say he is BACK would be the understatement of the year.

Not only is he back, but today, he was perfect.

Episcopal 5, Penn Charter 0

We typically have a couple of no-hitters every season. Whether that be combined, five-innings, or a good old fashioned seven inning no-hitter.

It’s pretty rare that we see 21 up, 21 down.

That was the case today for Episcopal’s Michael Schaffer, who retired all 21 Penn Charter hitters that he faced in a 5-0 win.

The Churchmen scored three in the third innings on a Reggie King RBI single followed by a two-run Baxter Schuh single that scored King and Schaffer, who reached base more than the entire Penn Charter team.

Episcopal added two insurance runs later on with a Dillon Walls RBI single in the fifth and a Spencer Schuh RBI triple in the sixth, but they were clearly not needed.

Schaffer went out for the seventh inning just three outs away from perfection, and got a fly out to left, a ground out back to himself, and a lineout to left to close this gem out.

Again, still just a sophomore, Schaffer has been one of the best players in Delco this year both at the plate and on the mound, and this just adds another chapter to that.

Episcopal has one of, if not the best, 1-2 punches in Delco with Duke recruit Hunter West along with Schaffer.

The best part is, they’ll both be be here next season as well with West still just a junior.

Episcopal improves to 4-2 in the Inter-Ac after an 0-2 start. They will host Bonner for a non-conference game on Saturday as it looks like the rain may not come until a bit later in the day.

Malvern Prep 5, Germantown Academy 1

Malvern Prep has allowed just two runs across three games this week, and that feels like a good recipe for success.

After Paul DiBona’s no-hitter vs Garnet Valley on Thursday, Collin Romanczuk went all seven innings with seven hits allowed, one earned run and seven strikeouts in this one.

Grady Forsberg got the scoring started with a solo shot to left field. The Friars would go on to score one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to bring home a 5-1 win.

Luke Moore had a hit, a walk and drove in two runs for the Friars. Jalen Bowman and Nick Schmitt also drove in runs for Malvern in the win. Brady Abate and Bryan Cogliano both had doubles as well.

Malvern Prep keeps sole possesion of first place as they improve to 5-1 in the Inter-Ac and 22-3 overall on the year. They’ll have a great test with Maryland’s Calvert Hall on Saturday in Towson, Maryland.

Conestoga 3, Upper Merion 1

Owen Wisler may not have started this game, but he sure finished it.

The Conestoga catcher had two hits, driving in all three runs in the road non-conference win for the Pioneers. Upper Merion scored one early in the bottom of the first, but that’s all they were able to get in this one.

Conestoga trailed 1-0 all the way up until the top of the fifth when they finally broke through. Wisler, who was pinch-hitting, delivered a two-run single to score Luke Herrell and Colin White.

Fast forward to the seventh, White came up clutch again, ripping a double to score Herrell for a big time insurance run.

Joe Tinneny had thrown the sixth inning as well, and he came back out for the seventh and tossed a clean inning to win this one 3-1.

All four pitchers for Conestoga threw well in this one:

Since it was a non-conference game, Conestoga’s Central League record remains 4-6, but they improve to 5-7 overall.

Upper Darby 7, Delco Christian 3

This one had to feel good for the Royals.

Since beating Academy Park on March 20th, Upper Darby had ten in a row before taking home this win vs Delco Christian. The Royals pushed four across in the second innings to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Delco Christian would slowly fight back, scoring a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Upper Darby put the game out of reach with three in their half of the fifth.

Austin Campbell had a big day on both sides of the ball for Upper Darby. He led the team with three hits at the plate, and also allowed just two earned runs over five innings with four strikeouts. Tommy Chung threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to finish it off.

David Cornett and Stephen Pasquarella both had two hits for Upper Darby. Pasquarella and Javohn Tran both drove in two runs.

Matteo DeBellis had three hits in the loss for Delco Christian while Josiah Lyren had two hits. Petros Nelson drove in a run for the Knights.

Upper Darby improves to 2-12 overall and will host Penncrest on Monday.

Delco Christian falls to 6-6 and will host Westtown Monday.

Shipley 6, Friends Central 3

Shipley was able to outlast Friends’ Central in another meeting of two longtime rivals. This game, which went to extra innings, could very well have been a preview of the Friends Schools League Championship. 

Shipley got on the board first in the second inning thanks to a wild pitch by Gavin Yeager that scored Dylan Fusaro. Friends’ Central answered right back in the bottom of the second thanks to Lucas Abreu’s small ball heroics. The senior bunted for a hit, then stole second and third, and scored on a ground ball by Fisher Haggerty.

After those first runs, the pitchers could not be stopped. Hudson Novodor struck out nine in his six innings of work, and Gavin Yeager quieted Shipley’s hot offense.

Friends’ Central’s defense was on fire once again, making the right plays in key situations. They did not record a fielding error for their second consecutive game. The defensive masterpiece was highlighted by an all-out diving catch by Miles Mammele in right field in the top of the seventh.

When the game got to extra innings, Shipley was able to wear down the battered Friends’ Central pitching staff. Mason Purdy blasted a two-run homer to knock Lucas Abreu out of the game, and Shipley kept adding on against sophomore pitcher David Manfre who was thrown into the fire. A five-run eighth inning for the Gators gave them the win.

Friends’ Central did not go down without a fight, however. In the bottom of the eighth, Caleb Bachman was hit by a pitch, Shane McGarry belted a double to left-center, and Lucas Abreu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Blake Davis capitalized on a throwing error by RJ Harvey, which gave the Phoenix two runs, but it wasn’t enough.

Shipley heads back home to take on Central tomorrow at noon, and the Phoenix will try to return to their winning ways against Central on Tuesday at home. These two teams may not be done with each other just yet, as they are both considered likely to reach the Friends League Finals.

Neumann-Goretti 13, The Haverford School 2

Neumann-Goretti put up six runs in two separate innings to take down The Haverford School in five innings.

The Fords scored the first two runs of this game in the first. Danny Getz drove in Zack Lawler with an RBI single, and would come around to score on an error as well, but that’s all the offense for them in this one.

Getz, Zack Lawler, Ethan Stern, Aidan Greenberg and John Buscaglia had hits in the loss for Haverford as well.

The Fords fall to 12-7 on the season while sitting at 3-3 in the Inter-Ac. They will host Malvern Prep on Tuesday for their next game.

The last time that these two teams played on that field, there were 11 combined homers in a 23-15 Malvern Prep win, so buckle up.

I wasn’t sure anyone in the DiBona family could top Frankie eating 11 hot dogs at our Malvern Prep vs Bonner Dollar Dog Day, but his older brother Paul may have beaten him out with this one.

Malvern Prep 8, Garnet Valley 0

Paul DiBona threw a no-hitter against Garnet Valley in this one, going all seven innings with no hits or walks and seven strikeouts. The only baserunner to reach was on an error and he needed just 69 pitches to do it.

Still debatable whether that is more impressive than 11 hot dogs, but we’ll let you decide for yourself. That’s a lot of bread right there.

This game was pretty tight all the way until the fifth as Malvern Prep lead 2-0 before they put four on the board to take full control.

Jack Heffner’s two-run double made it 4-0, and in the next at bat, Gabe Naylor launched a two-run shot to right to make it 6-0 just like that.

With a comfortable 8-0 lead and just three more outs needed for the no-hitter, DiBona, who despite playing at Malvern Prep is a Havertown native according to PG, picked up a pop out, a strikeout and another strikeout to lock down the no-hitter and the win.

Brady Abate also had two hits and an RBI in the win for the Friars. Aidan Capobianco and Luke Capaldi drove in runs.

The Friars improve to 22-3 on the year and will host Germantown Academy on Friday looking to remain in first place in the Inter-Ac.

As for Garnet Valley, they fall to 8-5 on the season and will host Springfield on Monday for their next game.

Marple Newtown 12, Harriton 0

What’s better for Marple than playing under the lights on arguably the best field in the area? How about a 12-0 dominant win in what was pretty much a must-win game for their playoff hopes. 

The Tigers did not disappoint and pounced on the struggling Harriton Rams early. The Tigers managed a nine-run second inning outburst, yes, nine runs. 

Things started off after Carter Patterson doubled, and then Sal Brady grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring the first run of the game. It was a hit parade from there as in order, Aiden Liberty, Cole Buckley, Jackson Burger, and John Matthews, all knocked in RBI singles. They were not done yet, as Sean Pancoast cleared the bases with a three-run RBI triple capping off a tremendous inning. 

Aiden Liberty continued the excellent offensive showing by blasting a two-run homer, making it an eleven run game through three innings. Justin DiSantis brought in the final run for the Tigers with a single. 

Calvin Costello had the lone hit for the Rams. Marple got a nice boost from the bottom of the lineup today.  Seven and eight hitters, Aiden Liberty and Carter Patterson, both had two hits each. 

A huge offensive showing cannot let the phenomenal pitching performance by Chase Magee be left unnoticed. Magee only gave up one hit in five innings of work.

Marple (4-6 in CL) will face a very tough Haverford team (10-0)  next Monday. The Rams (3-7) who are in need of wins ASAP will take on their rivals in the Lower Merion Aces (4-6) also on Monday.

Chichester 16, Academy Park 1

This is a pretty funny box score to look at, because despite Chichester winning 16-1 in five innings, they scored all those runs in two innings.

The Eagles scored five in the top of the second before blowing it open for 11 in the top of the fifth. Luke Werley had an awesome game both at the plate and on the mound. On the mound, he struck out eight over three shutout innings with just one hit and one walk allowed.

At the plate, he led the team with three hits and drove in two runs. Zach Murray, Evan Valentine, Cole Sanford and Gavin Derrickson all had two hits in the win.

Sanford drove in three runs, while Murray, Valentine, Werley, Derrickson and Brayden Sweigart all drove in two.

Cole Sanford threw two scoreless innings as well in the win.

Zahmir Latimore, Lucas Gilbert, Damian DeLany and Sean Murphy had hits in the loss for Academy Park.

Chichester improves to 8-0 in the Del Val and will take on Chester at home on Tuesday for their next game.

As for Academy Park, they fall to 1-7 in the Del Val and will host Penn Wood on Tuesday.

Interboro 17, Penn Wood 3

Interboro scored four in the first, three in the second, and put the exclamation point on this game with ten in the third.

Jaxson Munro, Scott Poluchuck and Joel Sheridan all had three hits in the win for Interboro. Munro drove in three runs as well while Poluchuck, Austin Dean and Zander Mcgowan all drove in two.

On the mound, Joel Schimpf struck out five over two scoreless innings and Jaxson Munro threw a scoreless fifth as well.

On the Penn Wood side, Sal Faralli and Jasai Hailey both had doubles, with Faralli driving in two runs. Anthony Amoroso also drove in two runs and threw two scoreless innings of relief.

Interboro improves to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Del Val. The weather does not look great, but Interboro is scheduled to play Ridley on Saturday morning at 11 AM for their next game should the rain hold off.

As for Penn Wood, they will head to Academy Park on Tuesday for their next game as they fall to 1-7 in the Del Val.

Springside Chestnut Hill 6, The Haverford School 1

The Haverford School did jump ahead 1-0 in this one on a Danny Getz RBI double in the top of the second, but that’s all the offense that they were able to score in this one.

Springside Chestnut Hill responded with two in the bottom of the second and also added two in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth as well.

Danny Getz led the way on offense for the Fords as he went 2/3. Zack Lawler, Caleb Siever, Mike Noone and Aidan Greenberg all had hits for the Fords in the loss.

Matt Borden threw 2.2 strong innings of relief with one run allowed and two strikeouts.

Haverford School falls to 3-3 in the Inter-Ac and 12-6 overall. They will travel to Neumann-Goretti on Friday for their next game.

Neumann-Goretti 4, Bonner 2

I’m not sure anyone would have believed you if you told them before the season that Bonner, who won the PCL in 2025, would be 4-9 through 13 games.

That is the case for Bonner, who has lost all three games this week including this one in extras to Neumann-Goretti.

All the action in this game came at the beginning and at the end.

Gavin DiRita’s RBI single put Bonner ahead in the bottom of the first, but the Saints put two on the board in the top of the second.

Ryan Friel’s sac fly tied it up at 2-2, but there were no more runs scored until the top of the eighth, when NG scored two runs on two outs with a single and an error.

Danny Buckton was stellar on the mound for Bonner, going seven innings with one earned run and five strikeouts. His defense made six errors, so two of the runs he allowed were unearned.

Gavin DiRita had two hits, Jack Coleman, Owen Lockhart, and Chase D’Ambrosio had hits as well in the loss for the Friars.

Bonner falls to 2-5 in the PCL and will head to Episcopal on Saturday for a non-conference matchup looking to get some confidence back.

I’m not sure how you can argue that any team other than Springfield is the surprise team of 2026.

I could see the argument for Penncrest, but there was a lot of talent there and they were so good in 2024. Springfield had not made the playoffs since 2022 and went 3-13 in the Central League last year.

They’re already 7-3 this year.

They are likely one win away from clinching a playoff berth if they haven’t already, but these guys should have their sights aimed a little bit higher than that.

Springfield 4, Lower Merion 3

The thrillers kept coming this afternoon as TJ Valletti walks it off for the Cougars in the bottom of the ninth. The Cougs continue to prove themselves in the Central League, winning seven of their last eight league games. 

Springfield struck first after a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nick Corse gave them a lead in the bottom of the first. The Aces got on the board the exact same way after Ryan Scholz grounded into a fielder’s choice tying the game. 

It was pretty quiet until the bottom of the sixth. Danny Meakim singled, scoring two, making it a 3-1 Cougar lead. Lower Merion kept finding answers as James Given hit a sac fly and Brendan O’Gara doubled, with O’Gara’s tying the game with two outs in the seventh.

Then in the bottom of the ninth, Owen Keough walked, and Nick Corse was intentionally walked. A near perfect opportunity for Valletti with runners aboard, and it’s safe to say he seized the moment, delivering a walk-off single. 

This game had pretty much everything you could ask for. Drew Kraus earned the win for the Cougs, and Nolan Dulski started the game only allowing 3 hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings. Brian Heck got the nod for the Aces. Heck had a solid outing allowing six hits on three runs. Defense for both sides was also fantastic. 

Springfield tallied nine hits. Meakim led the way going 2-5. Peyton Spiegler had two hits for the Aces. 

Springfield (7-3 in CL) will take on Garnet Valley (6-4) next Monday as they look to continue their momentous season. Lower Merion (4-6) will face their rivals in Harriton (3-6) next Monday as well.

Haverford 3, Strath Haven 0

A beautiful day for baseball brought in a nice crowd to watch today’s matchup between the Panthers and Fords. Today, Strath Haven hosted Haverford for what was an excellent day on the mound for both sides. 

The Fords got the win in this tight matchup behind a fantastic five inning start from Sean MacGillivray. Through five innings he notched seven strikeouts, allowed four hits, and walked one, but allowed no one to score. Jimmy Boyle then came in for the two inning save in which he also didn’t allow anyone to score.

Boyle threw an astounding five strikeouts in two innings with no hits, walks, or runs allowed.

The offensive efforts were headed by Jimmy Boyle, Kelleher, and Gavin Andrewson. Boyle went 2-4 with an RBI single in the sixth to extend the lead. Kelleher and Andrewson both went 1-3 on the day with a walk and RBI. Kelleher hit an RBI single and Anderson hit an RBI double.

Kelleher’s RBI single was the knock that got the day going for the Fords in the first and from there, they never looked back.

For Haven, the pitching was the strongest element of the game today. Patrick Burke started and Travis McDonough came in relief. Burke pitched a solid four innings. He allowed two runs, while striking out three and walking and allowed six people on base via a hit. McDonough threw three innings, struck out two, walked two, and allowed one run. He also allowed three hits.

You know what is usually the result of a great outing for one side? Quiet bats for the other.

Strath Haven only recorded four hits as a team, two from Eli Price and two from Patrick Burke. Both Price and Burke each went 2–3 with two singles.

With today’s outcomes Haverford maintains their first place lead in the Central League standings, while Strath Haven falls back to below .500.  The Fords are now 11-2 and 10-0 in Central League play. Haven is 6-7 and 5-4 in the Central League.

The next matchup for Haverford is a home game vs Marple on Monday. As for Haven, they will be on the road against Ridley, also next Monday.

Garnet Valley 3, Harriton 2

What looked like a rain-filled day turned into a beautiful afternoon for baseball in Rosemont, PA. It even went into extras!

It was tight early on as both teams picked up a few hits in the first few innings, but nothing catalyzed until the top of the fourth when Garnet Valley got on the board. Dylan Orr got things started with a single, and after an error put runners in scoring position, Cole Hoffacker delivered an RBI single to give the Jags a 1-0 lead. Zach Gordon then reached on another error, allowing Garnet Valley to push across a second run and take a 2-0 lead.

Harriton responded quickly in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Eli Bloch was hit by a pitch and Calvin Costello followed with a walk. Gaven Bowman then ripped a double into left-center field, bringing home a run. Sam Bohnenkamp followed with a groundout to first, but it was enough to drive in the tying run and even things up at 2-2. 

Not much else brewed until we hit extra innings, and sure enough in the top of eighth, Zach Gordon singled to left giving Garnet the late lead. 

Colton Turner earned the win for Garnet Valley, allowing no runs on one hit through four innings of work. For the Rams, Sam Bohnenkamp took the loss, going seven and two thirds only allowing one earned run on 102 pitches thrown. 

Offensively, Ryan McGhee led the Jags going 2-4 on the day. Gaven Bowman was the ignition for the Rams going 2-3. Calvin Costello got one to fall as well. 

With the late stretch of the season coming sooner than we all wanted, the Rams need to pick it up quickly, as they sit at 3-6 and face Marple Newtown tomorrow, who is also 3-6.

For the Jaguars, they improve to 6-4 in the league and they will look to keep on winning as tomorrow they take on an always dangerous Malvern Prep team in an out of conference matchup.

Ridley 5, Marple Newtown 0

What a performance by Ridley’s Jared Pugh, who allowed just two hits over six shutout innings on the road.

Ridley gave him some early run support before he even touched the field. Jayden Davis, our reigning hitter of the week, drove in Aidan Wong on a sac fly before a Jayden Carney RBI single made it 2-0. Wong knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice in the second to extend that lead to 3-0.

Ridley put the finishing touches on this one with a two-run Evan Nangle triple to blow it open at 5-0 in the fifth.

After Pugh went six innings in just 67 pitches, Brendan Soper threw a clean seventh to wrap up a massive win for Ridley. Kevin Agger and John Matthews had hits in the loss for Marple Newtown.

Ridley won’t go away just yet in this District 1 6A playoff race as they improve to 4-6. The Raiders will host Interboro on Saturday at 11 AM for their next game, where we will be doing a dollar dog day if the weather holds off. We were told if the game was canceled it may be rescheduled to Saturday, 5/9 instead.

As for Marple Newtown, they fall to 3-6 in the Central League and will host Harriton under the lights at 6:30 on Thursday for their next game. They aren’t out of it yet, but if they lose on Thursday, they are in big time trouble.

Radnor 10, Upper Darby 0

Radnor was shut out by Garnet Valley on Monday, but their offense bounced back in this one against Upper Darby.

They opened up the scoring with a Hayden Goldenberg sac fly to score Austin Havertine in the bottom of the second, but really took control with four in the bottom the third. Goldenberg also tripled, driving in two in the game. Andrew Quigley had two hits as well.

Wake Forest recruit Daniel Kellis made his first appearance of the season on the mound, going two scoreless innings with no hits and two strikeouts. He also had a hit at the plate, two walks and drove in two runs.

Sean Mutschler and Jack Ertel both threw two hitless innings as well, as the Raptors threw a combined no-hitter in six innings.

Radnor improves to 6-3 in the Central League and will be off until they head to Conestoga on Monday.

As for Upper Darby, they fall to 0-10 and will host Delco Christian on Friday for a Delco-on-Delco non-conference game.

Penncrest 11, Conestoga 9

Despite a 9-2 Penncrest lead after four, Conestoga battled back to make things interesting in this one.

Penncrest quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Braden Davis hit a two-run double to score Andrew Luber-Solic and Henry Murphy, M Simone doubled in Davis in the next at bat, and Sander Robinson ended the inning with an RBI single.

With a 6-2 lead in the fourth, Henry Murphy really blew this game open with a three-run homer to left, scoring Murphy and Sergio Hernandez.

Liam Wray threw four innings with two earned runs allowed and three strikeouts as he got the start for Penncrest.

Conestoga trailed 11-5 going into the seventh but found some offensive rhythm. Kurt Tharnish’s RBI single made it 11-6, and Landon Jones drove in two with a single to make it 11-8. Luke Hunter’s sac fly made it 11-9, but that’s as close as they’d get.

Braden Davis and Henry Muprhy both drove in three runs for Penncrest, Sander Robinson drove in two. Davis also closed the game out on the mound.

For Conestoga, Kurt Tharnish had three hits and drove in a run. Landon Jones, Finn Nieberle and Luke Hunter both drove in two runs, while Jones and Brendan Soura had two hits.

Penncrest wins to improve to 6-4 in the Central League and will travel to Upper Darby on Monday.

As for Conestoga, they fall to 4-6, and they will host Radnor on Monday for their next game.

Devon Prep 9, Judge 0

It’s been a HUGE week for Devon Prep, who has put themselves right back in the mix for a PCL playoff spot after a 1-5 start.

They took down Bonner on Monday and follow it up with a rout of Judge.

Liam Jung allowed just four hits over five shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Colin Carey and Caleb Tesfaye both threw scoreless innings in relief for the Tide.

At the plate, Alex Hannah, Joe Gabrielle, and Johnny Doogan all had two hits. Austin Conaty drove in three runs, but more importantly, had an inside-the-park homer to center field as well that scored two.

The Tide scored three in the first, one in the second, two in the fourth and three in the sixth to bring home a massive win.

Devon Prep is now sitting at 3-5 in the PCL and will head to Germantown Academy for a non-conference game on Saturday if the weather holds up.

Episcopal 4, Westtown 3

Fresh off of a DBN Game of The Week win over The Haverford School, Episcopal hangs on late to take down Westtown for their sixth straight win.

JD Amoroso led this game off with a bang, homering in the first at bat of the game to put the Churchmen up 1-0. Dillon Walls then added an RBI double in the third to double that lead to 2-0, scoring Michael Schaffer who singled.

Schaffer then continued a monster start to the season at the plate, sending a two-run shot to left field to drive in Spencer Schuh and put EA up 4-0.

Westtown, who might have the best team name in the area as they are the “Moose” got two back in the bottom of the fifth to make this thing interesting.

Matt Roberts came in to close this thing out, and despite a run on a sac fly from Westtown, he finished it up to get the win.

Charlie Smith started on the mound for Episcopal and was stellar, throwing five innings with three hits, two unearned runs and three strikeouts.

This was a non-conference game so EA still sits at 3-2 in the Inter-Ac, but they are now 12-5 overall on the year and will host Penn Charter on Friday for their next game. The Churchmen fell 3-1 to Penn Charter on Inter-Ac Opening Day back on April 7th.

This team looks a lot more confident than that team.

Delco Christian 16, Collegium Charter 0

The Delco Christian offense keeps rolling as they have now scored 10+ runs in five straight games, going 4-1 in that stretch.

This time, they needed just three innings to score 16 runs to hit the mercy rule. The Knights scored six in the first, two in the second and eight in the third to take home a Bicentennial Conference win.

Nathan Burd led the offense has he went 3/3 with an RBI and scored three runs. Maden Longley, Gabe DiGregorio and Matteo DeBellis all had two hits, with DiGregorio’s both being doubles.

DiGregorio, Longley, Justin Ma and Cyrus Mulder all drove in two runs.

On the mound, Josiah Lyren was quick and efficient as he allowed just two hits over three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Delco Christian improves to 5-2 in the Bicentennial League and will head to Upper Darby on Friday for a Delco on Delco non-conference matchup.

Rustin 9, Sun Valley 0

The tough times continued for Sun Valley, as they dropped their 11th straight game.

This time they had the pleasure of facing Vanderbilt recruit AJ Calio, who struck out 16 with just one hit and one walk allowed. Calio also struck out 16 in a no-hitter against Marple Newtown in districts last year, he just may be the top pitcher heading into the 5A bracket.

Luke Williams had the lone hit for Sun Valley in the loss.

The Vanguards fall to 1-11 in the Ches-Mont and will head to Unionville on Monday looking to snap the streak.

Wood 14, Carroll 3

Archbishop Wood bounced back from a crushing 13-1 loss to La Salle on Monday with a 14-3 victory over Archbishop Carroll. Although Archbishop Wood is not a Delco school, they did play one today.

The top of the order dominated for the Wood Vikings, especially their leadoff bat Chase Cavallaro. Cavallaro went 4-4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and 3 RBI. 

Archbishop Carroll started Max Barnes, who had some struggles finding the zone. Barnes gave up 1 earned run in the first inning that was followed up by some more defensive struggle for the Patriots that gave Wood 3 runs. Carroll answered back in the second with a double from Gavin Moore, Moore came home to score that same inning.

Woods offensive dominance continued in the third inning. The Vikings batted around in the inning and tacked on 5 runs. The Patriots did get 2 runs back with a 2 RBI single from Gavin Moore. Moore’s single was the final run scored by Archbishop Carroll in the game. 

Archbishop Wood pitchers Andrew Unrath and Jack Coughlin were great all game, not allowing the Carroll offense to catch momentum. 

The Vikings scored 5 more in the 4th inning and put the mercy rule in place. Archbishop Wood fulfilled the potential mercy rule by putting the Patriots down in order in the bottom of the 5th inning, ending the game and giving Archbishop Wood a bounce back victory. 

Next up for the Archbishop Wood Vikings is when they take on Germantown Academy on the 27th.

For Archbishop Carroll they prepare to take on Monsignor Bonner on the 27th as well sitting at 3-6 in the PCL.

Egan 15, O’Hara 0

Not really too much to write about in this one. Virginia recruit Brady Guzzie was absolutely nasty, striking out 13 O’Hara hitters while throwing five hitless innings.

The Eagles had a well-balanced offense, scoring four in the first, three in the second, four in the third and four in the fourth to win in mercy rule fashion.

Things have been tough for O’Hara after a nice start as they have lost six in a row and fall to 3-6 in the PCL. They will be back in action for a home non-conference game Saturday against Pope John Paul II.

This is the third consecutive year that we have had a Game of The Week at Episcopal with the Churchmen taking on The Haverford School.

The first, back in 2024, was a 2-0 Haverford School win. The second in 2025 was a 2-1 Episcopal win.

The third round of this Game of The Week went a little differently than the first two to say the least.

Episcopal 10, Haverford School 6

This game was hectic from start to finish, as more half innings included runs than half innings without runs.

Episcopal scored twice in the first inning on back-to-back bases loaded walks off of Haverford starter Owen Murphy, and that 2-0 lead held until the third. Haverford got their first run on a Braydon Scanlan sac fly, but any momentum quickly went away when Episcopal responded for two more on a wild pitch that scored Reggie King and a Baxter Schuh RBI double to score Dillon Walls.

Ty Cohen placed a picture perfect two-out bunt single in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1 Churchmen as well.

While Episcopal led the majority of the game, Haverford kept chipping away. They scored on a fielder’s choice and a sac bunt in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-3 before Episcopal got that run back on a Trey Schwaninger RBI single in the fifth.

Now the real fun began.

Haverford started their half of the sixth with Nicky Vanni reaching on an error and Ethan Stern ripping a ground rule double to left field to put the tying run at the plate. Mike Noone followed that up with a base hit to make it 6-4, and later in the inning, Danny Getz came up clutch from the #9 spot to tie it up with a two-run single to score Stern and Noone and we had a brand new ballgame.

With the score now tied at 6-6, EA looked to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Matt LaTour and JD Amoroso were walked, setting the stage for Spencer Schuh to be the hero. He took full advantage of that, singling to center field to score LaTour and put the Churchmen ahead 7-6.

They were not done yet.

Reggie King then added an RBI single to make it 8-6, and then a two-run Dillon Walls double really blew the game open. Roman Notaro retired the side in order to wrap up the win.

Episcopal junior ace and Duke recruit Hunter West started the game and threw the first four innings. He didn’t have the best command of his pitches like he did last week against Malvern, but he still battled really well and allowed just three earned runs and struck out two while keeping them in the game. That’s what the elite guys do when they aren’t at their best on a given day, all you can ask for.

Roman Notaro threw the next three innings and allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts.

Episcopal improves to 3-2 in the Inter-Ac and will head to Westtown for a non-conference game on Wednesday for their next game.

As for Haverford, they fall to 3-2 in the Inter-Ac and and will head to Springside Chestnut Hill on Thursday for their next game. The Fords defeated them 10-3 on Inter-Ac Opening Day.

Malvern Prep 11, Springside Chesnut Hill 1

A great day on both sides of the ball for the Friars as they rack up their 21st win of the season.

Jack Herbein (Lafayette commit) threw a complete game* allowing only three baserunners and one run, and punching out seven guys over six innings.

The Friars got on early in the first inning, as they scored five runs, highlighted by Jalen Bowman’s leadoff homer to start the game off with a bang.

In the third, Malvern Prep tacked on more, scoring four runs to make it a 9-0 game after only three innings, this time the inning was highlighted by Tommy Sergio’s bases clearing double to drive in three.

In the fourth, the Blue Devils scored their lone run, as Joe Piezynski drove in Joey Markey on a fielder’s choice. Markey tripled to lead off the inning, and was the Blue Devils only hit of the game.

Malvern Prep scored another two in the fifth to bring the game to an end via mercy rule. The Friars tacked on another win with a final score of 11-1.

SCHA moves to 9-7 on the season, and 1-4 in the Inter-Ac.

The Friars tack on their 21st win of the year, and now sit at 21-3, and sit atop the Inter-Ac at 4-1.

Chester 4, Penn Wood 2

Juan Martinez did it all in this one for the Clippers.

Not only did he strike out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched, he also had two hits, drove in a run and stole three bases.

This game was tied 2-2 late before Israel Figueroa and Emil Smith Jr. both drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the Clippers ahead for good. Jacoby Roman threw a scoreless seventh inning to wrap up the win.

Outside of the two hits by Martinez, Kevin Logan also had a hit for Chester in the win,

For Penn Wood, Jaiden Davis also struck out 11 on the mound and allowed three runs over five innings. Jasai Hailey and Bryan Romero both had two hits in the win, with Romero and Ishamel Torres driving in a run.

With the win, Chester improves to 4-4 in the Del Val and will be off until next week when they travel to first place Chichester.

As for Penn Wood, they fall to 1-6 and are back at home vs Interboro on Thursday.

Interboro 10, Academy Park 0

Interboro scored six runs in the first inning, which was more than enough to lead them to a Del Val win.

Austin Dean led the way with three hits out of the leadoff spot, while scoring two runs.

Noah Vazquez had two hits and scored two runs, while John Cartlidge drove in two runs. Chase Norbeck, Anthony Gentile, Tyler Green, Joel Schimpf and Trent Siebenaler all drove in runs for the Bucs.

On the mound, Tyler Green, Joel Sheridan and Jayden Pffaf all threw two shutout innings, with Sheridan striking out six.

Sean Murphy, Chase Clark and Quran Harris had hits in the loss for Academy Park.

With the win, Interboro improves to 6-2 in the Del Val and will head to Penn Wood for their next game on Thursday.

Academy Park falls to 1-6 with the loss and will host Chichester on Thursday.

Friends Central 10, Germantown Friends 0

Friends’ Central has been getting back into their groove, and a dominant win over Germantown Friends School keeps the ball rolling.

The defense played lights out behind Fisher Haggerty with no errors, and Haggerty was extremely efficient in his third dominant start in a row.

The sophomore pitcher had a rough outing against Springside Chestnut Hill at the beginning of April, but since then, everything has clicked. Today, he threw 51 pitches in five innings, allowed only two hits, and struck out four. He has allowed no earned runs since that day at Springside Chestnut Hill.

For a Phoenix pitching staff that has been battered by the injury to Michael Mamaluy, Haggerty’s hot streak has been huge.

The ball was flying off the bats of the Phoenix today, aiding Haggerty’s pitching effort. Five different Phoenix collected at least two hits. Caleb Bachman homered and singled, collecting three runs batted in. Lucas Abreu had two doubles. Zac Canterino hit two singles, stole two bases, and knocked in two runners. 

The Phoenix will take on Shipley, another Friends League rival, on Friday. Gavin Yeager is expected to start against the team who defeated the Phoenix in the league championship last season.

To say it is the biggest game of Friends’ Central’s season so far is an understatement. If Friends’ Central can take Shipley down, they would cement themselves once again as a team that the Friends League doesn’t want to mess with.

Pope John Paul II 12, Bonner 11

It turns out Haverford/EA wasn’t the biggest slugfest of the day, as PJP and Bonner combined for 23 runs and 27 hits.

PJP lead 8-3 going into the bottom of the fifth before Bonner stormed back for five more. This game had some crazy drama as PJP scored three in the top of the seventh to take the lead, just to see Bonner storm back for three in the bottom of the seventh including a homer from Jayden Raffensperger, a Jack Coleman RBI double and a Ryan Friel game-tying single.

PJP would go on to score one in the top of the eighth to win this one in extras.

Ryan Friel had three hits, two walks and drove in two runs in the loss for Bonner. Luke Albarano, Jack Coleman and Gavin DiRita all had two hits as well. Friel, Cole Romano and Sean Erickson all drove in two runs, with Erickson homering as well.

Sean Dugan threw two innings with no earned runs and three strikeouts in relief for Bonner.

This was a non-conference game for Bonner, so they remain 3-4 in the PCL, but fall to 4-8 overall on the year. They will host Neumann-Goretti on Wednesday for their next game.
