Green walks it off as Interboro takes down Ridley

PROSPECT PARK, PA — It may not be Thanksgiving, but Interboro and Ridley gave us a great rivalry game today.

This time on the diamond and not the gridiron it was Tyler Green and Interboro emerging victorious, as his walk-off single gave the Bucs a massive 6-5 win over a good Green Raiders team.

Interboro scored the first two runs of this game off of Ridley starter Jared Pugh, first on an error in the second then a Evan Thomas in the third to score Austin Dean after one of his three doubles on the day.

Ridley answered back in the top of the fourth on Interboro starter Mike McLaughlin, who had been exceptional through three. Luke Ladislaw singled and Jake Mansfield walked, and after advancing on a wild pitch, Ladislaw scored on a groundout by Aiden Wong.

As they did the whole day, Interboro had an answer.

Andrew Barbera’s RBI double made it a 3-1 Interboro lead, and Evan Thomas knocked him in to extend that lead to 4-1.

The seesaw continued once again as Ridley got a Brendan Soper RBI triple and Luke Ladislaw RBI single to cut that lead to 4-3 in the next half inning. Interboro continued the streak of five consecutive half innings with someone scoring in the bottom of the fifth when Joel Sheridan’s two-out single got one of those runs back at 5-3.

Ridley was now faced with a 5-3 deficit with just two innings to work with.

They got half of what they were looking for in the top of the sixth in an inning that looked like it was going nowhere with two on and no out. Logan Bubb worked a walk, and after stealing second, John Teehan smoked a double to cut the lead to 5-4, but he was stranded at second.

Fast forward to the top of the seventh, Brendan Soper led the bottom of the seventh off with a walk, but the next two Ridley hitters were retired. Soper decided he needed to get into scoring position so he stole second, but a throwing error allowed him to get to third base and be just 90 feet away from tying the game.

That extra 90 feet was much needed, as Aiden Wong’s ground ball was misplayed in the infield and the game was tied just like that.

This game would need extras as Interboro couldn’t do anything in their half of the seventh, so we head to the eighth.

Logan Bubb would work another walk, but Jaxson Munro came in and retired the final two hitters to once again give Interboro the chance to walk it off.

After a flyout, Austin Dean hit a double, his FOURTH hit of the day, to put himself in scoring position. Dean would advance to third on a wild pitch, but it might not have mattered anyway as Tyler Green knocked him in with a base hit to walk it off and give the Bucs a huge non-conference win.

It may not affect playoff positioning, but that has to be huge for the Interboro clubhouse.

Interboro (3-3, 1-1 in Del Val) will be back to work on Tuesday against Academy Park at home at 3:30.

As for Ridley, they fall to 3-2 (3-1 in Central League) and will have a tough home game against Garnet Valley (2-1) on Monday at 3:45.
