NEWARK, DE — With ace and Rutgers commit Cory Sheridan on the shelf, Bonner has needed some big time pitching performances this season and Mike Klawansky just added another one to that list.

The Alvernia recruit went all seven innings today allowing just three hits and one earned run against Delaware’s Appoquiminink (had to triple check the spelling on that one) to get a 3-1 win.

Bonner struck first in the top of the first when Sergio Hernandez doubled to lead off the game, stole third, and came into score on a sac fly by our reigning hitter of the week Michael Coleman.

Appoquiminink got one back in the bottom of the second on a single, but that’s the only run that they would see come home in this one. Bonner answered quickly in the top of the third with another run as Ryan Friel singled, stole second, and came in on a single by Owen Lockhart.

Bonner just dominated the base paths in this one, specifically Ryan Friel (4) and Sergio Hernandez (3) who were a part of the 11 stolen bags. Oh, and they also both had three hits as well.

Bonner held that 2-1 lead late into the game but was able to add on an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a steal of home that saw Sergio Hernandez come home and Ryan Friel snag third. Going to need to see a replay of that one to see what happened there.

Either way, that insurance run helped but ultimately was not needed as Klawansky retired the side in order in the seventh to lock down a 3-1 non-conference win.

Bonner will host Devon Prep for their next game Wednesday afternoon at 4:00.
