ROSEMONT, PA- When you’re hot, you’re hot. That’s exactly what the Aces are as they continue their surprise season, remaining top three in a loaded Central League.
Even though the Aces didn’t score in the first inning, they hung a crooked number up in the second.
With one man on and two outs in the inning, Toby Myers blasted his first of two homers to put Lower Merion on top early. Ryan Scholz then drove in a run on an error, making it 3-0 Aces.
In the bottom of the second, Brian Heck escaped a two men on, one-out jam to keep the score where it was at.
In the third, Brody Slensky got a base hit with one out, and came around to score on a series of wild pitches and error to make it 4-0. Charlie Parsons then doubled home Nicholas Dragut, who walked earlier in the inning. 5-0 Aces.
In the fourth, Myers blasted his second homer, an oppo-taco to right field putting Lower Merion up big in the middle innings, 6-0.
The Rams bullpen managed to keep Lower Merion’s offense in check throughout the middle innings, allowing only one run in three innings from the fourth to the sixth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Charlie Lovett came in for Heck, who went four strong, striking out seven, and allowing only one hit as he took home the win.
There wasn’t much until the bottom of the sixth, where Harriton got their sole run off of a base hit from Sam Bohnenkamp.
But, the Aces took that to heart, and hung up another crooked number. After a leadoff triple, Gus Wright came home to score on an error, while Dragut walked. Justin Heck then drove in a run on an error to make it 8-1. Myers then drove in his third and fourth runs of the day, though was unfortunately not credited with RBIs, on an error to make it 10-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
After getting two outs in the inning, Lovett had two men on with two outs, but was unfazed as he managed to get the last batter to fly out.
Harriton falls to 3-8 in Central League play and will play away at Penncrest (3-8 in CL) on Wednesday at 3:45.
Lower Merion stays hot, and is behind only Haverford and Radnor in the Central League standings at 8-3. They will play away at a Conestoga (6-5 in CL) team who just had a seven game win steak snapped Wednesday at 3:45 in our game of the week on YouTube.
