Low-scoring, great pitching, clean defense, and a big clutch hit when you need it the most.

Logan Correll and Roman Notaro were excellent on the mound, allowing just four hits and one earned run across seven innings. The was scoreless through three innings with Correll and Penn Charter starter Cole Stocks both in control until Penn Charter struck first in the top of the fourth on a sac fly.

Episcopal responded in just about the best way you possibly could, putting three of their own across in the bottom of the fourth.

JD Amoroso led the inning off with a single, and with one out, Jake Virbitsky added a single of his own. Later on in the inning with Amoroso on third and courtesy runner Charlie Smith on second, Reggie King would step up with two outs and two on.

King proceeded to smoke a two-run double to right field to drive both of them in and give the Churchmen a 2-1 lead. King then came around himself to score when Will Cohen’s ground ball was misplayed and Episcopal then went on top 3-1.

The pivotal moment in this game came in the top of the fifth when Roman Notaro came in for Logan Correll after he walked two and there were two on with two outs. Notaro came up big with a strikeout to strand the two runners on base and avoid the threat.

Notaro was as dominant as you can be in relief. He retired all seven hitters he faced, giving Penn Charter no hope of a rally in the sixth or seventh innings to give Episcopal a great 3-1 home win.

The Churchmen now sit at 3-3 in the Inter-Ac, which surely has to feel good after they were 3-7 in the Inter-Ac last season. They will be off until they host Germantown Academy (4-3) on Friday at 4:00.
