ARDMORE, PA- Someone fact check me, but this might be the BIGGEST come back this season.

This game was all Lower Merion, until it wasn’t.

Ridley took the early lead in the first. Logan Bubb led off the game with with a base hit, then stole second so that John Teehan could drive him in with a base hit of his own to put Ridley on top 1-0. With one out in the inning and Teehan on second, Jake Mansfield doubled to drive him in and make it 2-0 after half an inning.

But, Lower Merion answered right back with a two-out rally. With Brody Slensky, who doubled with one out, on base with two outs, Nicholas Dragut singled to drive him in and cut into the deficit, 2-1. Charlie Parsons then singled to put Dragut in scoring position, where Calvin Rendle singled to knot the game up at 2-2 after one.

Justin Heck threw a big shutdown inning to hold Ridley and set up some more scoring for the Aces.

After Ryan Scholz and Matt Hartstein reached on a single and an error, Gus Wright drove in Hartstein to put Lower Merion up 3-2. Slensky then drove in Wright, who advanced to third on an error, to pad the lead to 4-2. Toby Myers was then plunked, where Dragut hit a three-bagger to drive him in and make it 5-2. Rendle then drove in Dragut to make it 6-2 after two.

In the fifth inning, Heck threw his last inning. His final line was five innings, five hits, one earned run, and seven punch outs.

The Aces tacked on a few more in the bottom of the fifth. With two men on and one out, Slensky drove in his second run of the day, making it 7-2. They went on to score three more in the inning, featuring RBI’s from Dragut, Rendle, and Jack Hollowell, making this game seem out of reach after five.

But, in the top of the seventh, the script flipped.

Ridley led off the inning with back to back singles, before popping into an infield fly. There were two men on and one out. Bobby Doherty then drove in a run on a single. Runners on first and third for Jake Mansfield. Mansfield came through and singled, to cut it down to 10-4.

Teehan then singled to load the bases for Nick Pollag, who came through and drove in a run on an error. 10-5. Aiden Wong singled to make it 10-6 with still only one out in the inning. Joey McGuire then made it 10-8 with a base hit of his own. Tim Calamita then made it a one run game with yet another single for Ridley, making it 10-9.

The Aces managed to strike the next batter out, but then walked Teehan to set it up for Doherty with the bases juiced. Doherty, the team captain, then drove in both the tying and go-ahead run off an error, to make it 11-10 Ridley. The script has totally flipped.

The Raiders tacked on two more for insurance off of a Mansfield single, giving him four runs driven in on the day. The most impressive part about this is that they did it purely off of singles and three errors by Lower Merion. Eight singles to be exact.

It took Ridley two pitchers, and a little bit of stress as they let the Aces tack on two runs to make it close, to finish probably the most impressive win of the season by any team.

Lower Merion tacks on one in the loss column, and now sit at 10-5 in the Central League. They will be at home against Garnet Valley (10-5 in CL) on Monday at 3:45 for a HUGE game. Winner of this game would get a huge boost in their chances of getting a home game for the 6A playoffs, or even a first round bye.

Ridley moves up to 6-9 in the Central League, and will look to play spoiler against Haverford (14-1 in CL) on Monday at 3:45.

Monday is starting to look like that memorable game 162 in 2011 with all these games with playoff implications.

Monday should be one for the ages.
