Chester ends season on high note with win over Penn Wood

CHESTER, PA — One of the first Delco high school teams to wrap up their 2025 campaign are the Chester Clippers. They did so on a high note, beating Penn Wood 16-5 in five innings.

Jorge Nunez and Jacoby Roman led the way offensively with three hits apiece. Nunez was 3/3 with a triple, a walk, and two RBIs. Roman was 3/4 with two doubles and two RBI. The Chester catcher also threw out three runners.

Johnathan Quiros added two hits and three RBI for Chester. Nasir Morrison also had a multi-hit day and Mylan Sudler hit a double and drove in a run. Neaven Diaz had a good day on the bases, stealing four bags.

A-Saiah Payne got the start on the mound for Chester. Juan Martinez struck out six over three scoreless in relief to earn the win for the Clippers.

Chester trailed 5-4 in this one going into the bottom of the third. Quiros got a rally started with a single and after a few walks and errors, they had a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Quiros brought one more home in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and Emil Smith Jr. stole home to put the Clippers up 9-5. 

They ended the game by run rule with a huge, seven-run seventh inning. The offensive explosion was highlighted by a RBI double from Roman, a two-run single from Quiros, and a single from Morrison.

It’s always nice to end the year on a win; Chester ended on two wins in a row against Del Val opponents which has to feel good. The Clippers finish 2025 with a final record of 5-8 overall and 5-7 in league.

Kehinde Mogaji led Penn Wood with two hits. Anthony Amoroso, Dean Felder, Khalil Medina all picked up hits and RBIs as well.

Penn Wood has had a difficult year. The Patriots are 1-12 overall and 0-10 in the Del Val. They have one more chance to earn a league win at home against Interboro.
