2A PLAYOFF PREVIEW: #3 Calvary Christian @ #2 Delco Christian

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — After falling to undefeated Faith Christian in the 1A District Championship last year, Delco Christian finds themselves in the 2A bracket this time around.

They’ll still likely have to get through that same Faith Christian team to win the district title, but first up is a rematch with Calvary Christian. Delco Christian lost that game just five days ago 6-5 on a walk-off, so that is no easy task.

Reid Darnall and Porter Roberts both had two hits each in that game for the Knights, who went 8-4 in the conference this year to earn a home playoff game. That home field advantage could be the difference in this one.

Darnall has had a huge season offensively as he leads the Knights with a .473 average and a 1.240 OPS. No one else on the team is even close, with Sam Dixon second on the team hitting .322 with a 1.118 OPS.

Josiah Lyren, Justin Ma, Beau Lyren, and Matteo DeBellis are also key members of this Knights offense as they return a ton from their lineup last season.

On the mound, we expect to see either Josiah or Beau Lyren as they are #1 and #2 on the team in innings pitched. Josiah has a 3.89 ERA in 27 innings pitched while Beau has a 1.83 ERA in 23 innings pitched. Reid Darnall is third on the team with 16 innings pitched, so it’s likely that one of those two Lyren’s gets the ball.

For Calvary Christian, which is located in Philadelphia, they went 7-5 on the year.

Caleb Rose, Caleb Leader, and Nathan Flansburg are the key members of this offense. Rose is also one of the top pitchers on the team, as well as David Zamora. This is a very senior heavy Calvary Christian team, which is a big advantage in high stress games.

Calvary Christian did not make the playoffs last year, while Delco Christian upset Dock Mennonite then fell to eventual State Champion Faith Christian in the title game.
