FLOURTOWN, PA — Springfield Township (the Montco one, not the Delco one) scored five runs in the first inning against Interboro and never looked back.
The #1 seed in the 4A bracket went 14-1 in the regular season and showed why today. With the 11-3 win, they will take on #2 Pope John Paul II on Friday for the district title.
It was Interboro who struck first in the top of the first after Andrew Barbera doubled with one out, advanced to third on a passed ball, and then scored on a groundout by Evan Thomas.
Springfield stormed back with five runs of their own off of Shane West, all five of which were unearned. Two errors plagued Interboro and three straight hits including a three-run double by Mike Capoferri blew this thing wide open for the Spartans that knocked West out of the game and brought in Tyler Green,
Springfield would score in each of the first four innings, taking a commanding 10-1 lead going into the fifth inning. Mike McLaughlin pitched well in relief for Interboro as he threw 2.2 innings with one unearned run and a strikeout.
Interboro showed some fight in the top of the fifth when Austin Dean singled, Jaxson Munro walked, and Evan Thomas drove them both in with a deep double. That was as close as Interboro would get, as their season comes to a close at 10-8 on the year, a really positive sign.
