MALVERN, PA — After taking down #6 Springside-Chestnut Hill, Episcopal finds themselves one game away from playing for a state title.

This game was originally suppposed to take place on Thursday at The Perkiomen School, but the weather did not allow that. The game has since been moved to Malvern Prep’s gorgeous new turf stadium, which is certainly a favorable outcome for Episcopal being much closer to home.

That will be part of a doubleheader where #1 Malvern Prep and #5 Germantown Academy will play at 12:00, and EA/Perk will play directly after. Barring anything crazy, I would guess that game starts sometime in the 2:30-3:00 range.

#3 Episcopal took down #6 Springside-Chestnut Hill 5-3 on Tuesday to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Logan Correll, who will be heading to Lehigh as a pitcher, launched a two-run homer in the win. For anyone who has ever been to Episcopal’s field, that is not an easy feat.

Spencer Schuh and Will Cohen also had two hits each in that game while Schuh, Cohen, and Jake Virbitsky drove in runs.

On the mound, Hunter West allowed two runs over three innings, Roman Notaro was outstanding with one unearned over three innings, and Charlie Smith closed out the win with a scoreless seventh.

We are expecting to see Logan Correll start this game. The lefty flamethrower has been a part of a great 1-2 punch with West this year and should EA get the job done, West should be ready to go for the state title Saturday.

While Episcopal does not have their stats public, we can tell you that Reggie King has been a force in this lineup. He has been in the middle of pretty much everything the Churchmen have done this season in the middle of the order. Jake Virbitsky has had a great season behind the plate as well and Spencer Schuh is a hit machine.

Dillon Walls and JD Amoroso set the tone at the top of the order as well.

Meanwhile, Perkiomen took down #10 The Haverford School 2-1 on Tuesday on a walk-off single by Penn State recruit Avery Smith. The Panthers trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh before they rallied to walk it off. They are looking to return to the state title where they fell to Malvern Prep 13-4 last season.

Smith has had a monster season for Perkiomen. He is hitting .475 with a staggering 1.589 OPS, which both lead the team. He also has 5 HR and 24 RBI, which is more than twice as much as anyone on the roster.

Justin Fryer is second in average (.395) and OPS (1.053) and will be a big part of the lineup. Ian Perez is third in average hitting .370 with an OPS of .849.

It would be a shock to not see Fryer on the mound as well, who is a Northwestern recruit. Mansfield commit Ryan Sink threw all seven innings against THS on Tuesday and Perkiomen had a bye, so everyone else will be on full rest.

Of the 95.2 innings that Perkiomen has threw this year, Sink has thrown 44% of them (42.1 innings) and Fryer has thrown 27% of them (26 innings). Together, those guys have thrown 71% of the team’s innings which is remarkable.

Should Perkiomen decide to get cute and try and save Fryer for a potential state title game with Malvern Prep or Germantown, freshman Cole Tucholski or UTampa recruit Gavin Fuelner could get the ball, but I think it’s more likely that they go with Fryer.

As of now, we are told the state title game would be Saturday at Ursinus at 10:30. That could change if the field is not ready, so we’ll see.
