CHESTER, PA — One of the first Delco high school teams to wrap up their 2025 campaign are the Chester Clippers. They did so on a high note, beating Penn Wood 16-5 in five innings.

Jorge Nunez and Jacoby Roman led the way offensively with three hits apiece. Nunez was 3/3 with a triple, a walk, and two RBIs. Roman was 3/4 with two doubles and two RBI. The Chester catcher also threw out three runners.

Johnathan Quiros added two hits and three RBI for Chester. Nasir Morrison also had a multi-hit day and Mylan Sudler hit a double and drove in a run. Neaven Diaz had a good day on the bases, stealing four bags.

A-Saiah Payne got the start on the mound for Chester. Juan Martinez struck out six over three scoreless in relief to earn the win for the Clippers.

Chester trailed 5-4 in this one going into the bottom of the third. Quiros got a rally started with a single and after a few walks and errors, they had a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Quiros brought one more home in the fourth with a sacrifice fly and Emil Smith Jr. stole home to put the Clippers up 9-5. 

They ended the game by run rule with a huge, seven-run seventh inning. The offensive explosion was highlighted by a RBI double from Roman, a two-run single from Quiros, and a single from Morrison.

It’s always nice to end the year on a win; Chester ended on two wins in a row against Del Val opponents which has to feel good. The Clippers finish 2025 with a final record of 5-8 overall and 5-7 in league.

Kehinde Mogaji led Penn Wood with two hits. Anthony Amoroso, Dean Felder, Khalil Medina all picked up hits and RBIs as well.

Penn Wood has had a difficult year. The Patriots are 1-12 overall and 0-10 in the Del Val. They have one more chance to earn a league win at home against Interboro.

Now presenting, your champions of the first ever DBN Delco D3 Baseball Championship, Swarthmore College!

Swarthmore went undefeated against all in-county competition. They clinched the title by outscoring Centennial Conference rival and fellow Delco team, Haverford College, 41-12 across two games in the regular season.

The Garnet finished the year 5-0 against other Delco teams, just ahead of also-undefeated Neumann. The Knights had a late push for the title; they took both games of a doubleheader against Rosemont to put the pressure on, but Swarthmore did not falter.

Also finishing close to the title was Widener, who went 4-2 in the competition. The Pride were sitting in first place the last time we visited these standings, but a 15-9 loss to Neumann derailed their chances of finishing in first place.

Swarthmore used a good amount of pitchers across the five games, but a few guys saw a lot of action against other Delco opponents.

Ian Born pitched in all but one of Swarthmore’s games in the competition. He earned two wins and pitched eight innings, highlighted by striking out three in two scoreless innings in the Garnet’s 5-2 win over Widener. Steven Jungers also picked up two saves.

Playing one of the largest roles in Swarthmore’s title clinching wins was Delco’s own, Brad Johnston. The Episcopal Academy grad was in and out of the lineup to start the year, but earned regular playing time and caught fire down the stretch.

In the doubleheader against Haverford, Johnston went an insane 5/7 with three home runs and TEN RBI. He also drew three walks in a dominant offensive performance.

Aidan Sullivan led the offense through the entirety of the competition. In five starts, the Connecticut native picked up twelve hits, including four doubles and a triple. He hit .600 in the competition and picked up four RBIs as well.

There were plenty of great moments this spring. Swarthmore and Eastern gave us an 11-10 thriller in the first Delco vs Delco game of the year.

Neumann went 4-0 but were not without some crazy finishes. JerVal Shuler made one of the best plays we’ve seen across any level this year, robbing a potential go-ahead home run for the last out of Neumann’s 6-5 win over Eastern. Later in the year, AJ Nardo played the hero, hitting a walk-off home run for a 3-2 win over Rosemont.

Widener also gave us some games to remember. Ryan Madden drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk off walk in their 9-8 win over Eastern during their Conference series. Down 12-3 against Haverford College, the Pride offense scored 10 unanswered, winning an incredible 13-12 ball game.

Even Penn State Brandywine, who played only two games against Delco teams, had a fun moment. Tommy Zotollo pinch hit in extra innings and singled home the winning run in their 8-7 victory over Rosemont. Rosemont then turned around in the second game of this doubleheader and won 6-5.

Haverford’s Harry Genth was not only one of the best college players in this area, but the entire country. The Baltimore native hit .428 in total this year, finishing with numbers would make guys playing 162 games happy. On the year, he hit 23 home runs, had 77 RBI, and stole 31 bases.

Genth won the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and has put his name in the conversation for Division Three Player of the Year and potentially some professional opportunities.

Of our seven Delco teams, two remain “alive”. Swarthmore was knocked out of the Centennial Conference tournament by Haverford (we decided on not counting postseason games because some teams do not have other Delco teams in their conference for playoffs), but has an outside chance at an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. As of April 27th, the Garnet are ranked fifth in the Region V standings.

Neumann began their quest for an Atlantic East tournament title on Wednesday against Centenary with a walk-off win. The Knights are the second seed in the tournament and would need to win it all in order to play in the NCAA regionals.

It has been a fun spring tracking how all the Delco D3 Teams did against each other, and we look forward to doing it in even more depth next year. For now, here’s a look at the final standings from 2025.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — Charlie Smith gave Episcopal Academy a gem on Saturday as Episcopal extends their unbeaten streak to seven.

He kept a strong St. Joe’s Prep lineup off the board over six innings pitched as the Churchmen earned a 4-0 victory.

Neither team threatened to score over the first four innings, but two singles and a walk from St. Joe’s gave us the game’s first real opportunity. Smith locked in and got two ground balls, one fielder’s choice and one groundout, to escape the jam with no runs.

Episcopal gained some momentum from that escape and used it right away in the bottom of the fifth. Will Cohen led off with a single and Logan Correll followed with a double for the opening run.

That run would be all EA needed, but they added three more in the bottom of the sixth for insurance. 

Jake Virbitsky was hit by a pitch and Reggie King stayed hot as singled to set the table. Correll picked up his second RBI with a single that made it 2-0 and Ian Ferrell hit a two-run double for a 4-0 lead.

Smith passed the ball off to Matt Roberts in the seventh to close it out. His final line was six innings pitched, zero runs on three hits and two walks, and two strikeouts.

Roberts provided more of the same, pitching a clean seventh and wrapping up a 4-0 win.

Episcopal has been on fire as of late; the Churchmen have won three in a row and six of their last eight, and of those games being a tie with Westtown. They’ll hope this good form continues into Tuesday, when EA visits Springside Chestnut Hill for an Inter-Ac matchup.

Later on in the week, they will host the Delco Baseball Now game of the week for the second time ever when they welcome in The Haverford School.

HAVERFORD, PA — Conestoga sophomore Luke Hunter flexed his muscles Saturday, hitting not one, but two home runs and leading Conestoga to a nice 9-5 non-league win over The Haverford School on the road. 

The Pioneers got out to a 5-0 lead early. Hunter opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the top of the first. James Quici hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the second to make it 3-0 and Cooper Evers cleared the bases with a double that pushed the lead to five.

Haverford answered back by loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second. They took advantage of some control issues by Conestoga pitching, with Zack Lawler and Caleb Siever drawing walks, and John Buscaglia being hit by a pitch.

They couldn’t make much of the opportunity. A double play got a run in but put the rally in jeopardy, with a strikeout ending it.

Hunter got that run right back for Conestoga, blasting one out to center field to make it 6-1. Landon Jones had a line out to center that worked as a sacrifice fly later in the inning. Chase Rantanen scored on the play for the Pioneers’ seventh run.

The Haverford School chipped away the next few innings; Jaidyn Rivera came home on a balk in the third and the Lawler brothers both picked up RBI singles. Zack hit one in the fifth and Thomas had on in the sixth that cut their deficit to three.

Conestoga made sure the Fords never got in striking distance, though. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases in the top of the seventh. Owen Wisler hit a sac fly and Josh Lee (who submitted himself for Delco Baseball Most Valuable Player in our Instagram poll which was electric) hit an RBI single, giving the Pioneers a comfortable 9-4 lead with three outs to get.

Nick Vanni was able to add a home run in the seventh for Haverford, but they could not do anything else, as Conestoga closed out a 9-5 win.

This was Conestoga’s last non-league game of the year. The Pioneers (8-5 in Central League) finish with three Central League matchups, with the first being at home on Monday against Garnet Valley (8-5). Both of these teams should be safe in the PIAA District 1 6A bracket, but the winner of this game is almost certainly in.

The Haverford School gets back into Inter-Ac action on Tuesday. They sit at 1-6 in the Inter-Ac and host Germantown before playing in our Game of the Week at Episcopal (4-3) on Friday.

MEDIA, PA — After an upset win over Marple on Wednesday, Springfield stayed hot.

The Cougars rallied for five runs in the fifth on the way to a 7-3 win over Penncrest, their second straight.

Connor Manuel started for Springfield and did a great job of keeping the Penncrest offense quiet. In four innings, he only gave up two hits and two runs (one earned), good enough to earn the win. TJ Valletti was solid in relief as well, only giving up a hit and a run across the final three innings to earn the save.

Penncrest did get out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Lucas Punzo reached second on an error to lead off, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the game’s first run on another wild pitch. Nash Grant walked, stole second, and scored the Lions’ second run on a Henry Murphy single.

Nick Corse was key in getting one of those runs back for Springfield. He led off the third with a single, stole second, and eventually came home on a Penncrest error.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, the Cougars put together maybe their biggest rally all season. 

Again it was Corse getting things started; he led off with a single and Sean O’Reilly followed with one of his own. The pair then stole second and third, putting some serious pressure on the Penncrest defense.

Patrick O’Neill tied things up with a one-out groundout that scored Corse and David DeJohn singled home O’Reilly, giving Springfield their first lead of the day.

Errors made a manageable deficit much worse for Penncrest. A ground ball from Shane McCaffrey was booted to keep the inning alive and TJ Valletti made it hurt by ripping a double to left that gave Springfield a 4-2 lead.

McCaffrey came home on a passed ball to make it 5-2 and another error allowed Valletti to come home with the sixth run.

Penncrest really could not get back into it after that, only managing a walk across their halves of the fifth and sixth. Valletti made his job on the mound easier in the seventh, singling home DeJohn in what felt like the final nail in the coffin.

The Lions made it a little interesting in their last at-bat, loading the bases with one out. They could only muster a sac fly though, as Valletti got a strikeout to close Springfield’s 7-3 win.

With the loss, Penncrest falls to 3-10 in the Central league and 4-11 overall. Back-to-back losses pretty much eliminates Penncrest from playoff contention, but they have the opportunity to play spoiler to a few teams. The Lions finish league play with matchups against three playoff-hopefuls, starting with Marple on Monday.

Springfield also moves to 3-10 in the Central League and 4-11 overall. Like Penncrest, they are out of playoff contention but have a chance to mess with some seasons, especially with a home game against Central League title contender Radnor next week. First things first though, the Cougars have an away game against Strath Haven on Monday.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Garnet Valley went on the road Monday to face an upset-minded Springfield team.

The Cougar bats could not do much against GV ace, Ryan McGhee. Some timely offense, including a two-run bomb from Joe Anzalone, led them to a 6-1 win.

McGhee pitched the whole game, only surrendering one earned run on six hits. He also had six strikeouts.

Garnet’s offense got going early. Cole Lombardo doubled with one out in the first and Harrison Maull brought him in. His two-out single to left opened the scoring.

They added a second run in the top of the third. Cole Hoffacker led off with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground ball.

With one out, Lombardo hit a ground ball to third. Springfield third baseman Shane McCaffery made a nice play to field the ball and look Hoffacker back to third, but his throw to first got away, allowing Hoffacker to score and push the GV lead to 2-0.

Springfield showed some life in the bottom of the fourth. McCaffery came through with a huge, two-out, double to get the Cougars on the board. They were close to tying the game the next batter, but Garnet was able to get McCaffery at home to end the threat.

Garnet Valley added more insurance in the fifth. Nolan Carroll led off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a flyout. McGhee helped himself out, getting a safety squeeze down. Springfield couldn’t get Carroll at home and the Jaguars led 3-1.

Pinch runner Garrett Hosterman advanced on a pickoff attempt that was thrown away. He eventually scored on a sac fly from Maull.

Joe Anzalone put the exclamation mark on this win for Garnet Valley. He took big swings all day and got a hold of one in the sixth, hitting an absolute moonshot to left for a two-run home run.

McGhee took care of the rest and closed out Garnet Valley’s seventh win of the year. They’re 7-4 in the Central League and 7-7 overall, sitting in a good spot to make the 6A playoffs.

This is a big win for Garnet Valley considering that they were missing their #3 and #4 hitters in the order in Chris Schaller and Brady Thompson.

Garnet has a big game ahead of them next as they host Jimmy Boyle and undefeated Haverford on Wednesday.

The loss bumps Springfield to 1-10 in the Central League. They’ve been competitive this year but just haven’t been able to make some of those game winning plays. That will happen sometimes with a young roster like the one the Cougars have.

Springfield is back in action on Wednesday. They host Marple Newtown (5-6 in Central League).

The Ridley Raiders stayed in good form Friday, pulling out a close 6-5 victory over a tough Chichester team.

Committee pitching and some timely hitting got the job done. Luke Ladislaw’s bases-clearing double in the fifth proved to be the winning hit.

Chichester was first on the board in this one. Evan Valentine tripled with one out in the second and Gavin Derrickson brought him home with a sac fly.

Ridley answered back in the bottom of the second, which would become a theme. John Teehan led off with a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and a groundout, and scored on another groundout from Joey McGuire.

The game would stay 1-1 until the top of the fourth, where Chichester struck again. With one out, Valentine walked, Derrickson singled, and Logan Werley walked, loading the bases. Werley’s brother, Luke, got the Eagles back in the lead with an RBI groundout.

Ladislaw came in to pitch and got out of the jam. He proceeded to lead another Ridley rally in the bottom of the fourth.

With one out, Ladislaw drew a walk. He came around to score on a Nick Radomile single that got away from the right fielder. Joey McGuire then picked up another RBI with a single that scored Radomile and gave Ridley a 3-2 lead.

These two teams really gave us a great, back-and-forth game. Cole Sanford led off the top of the fifth with a walk and Zach Murray reached on an error to put Chichester in good position.

Sanford and Murray pulled off a double steal, putting runners at second and third with no-outs. The Eagle offense took advantage; a pair of RBI groundouts from Alex Kester and Trevor Goschler gave them a 4-3 lead.

Again, they just couldn’t keep the Ridley offense down. This time, the Raiders pulled off a two-out rally to get back ahead.

Jake Mansfield worked a walk and Louis Sordini followed with a walk of his own. Nick Pollag was hit by a pitch and just like that, the bases were loaded.

That’s when Ladislaw came to the plate and played hero. His line drive to center got down for a bases-clearing double and put the Raiders up 6-4.

This time, the lead would last. Sordini and Shane Rentz combined to only let one unearned run in over the last two innings and close this one out.

The loss drops Chichester to 8-3 and ends their eight game win streak. It does nothing to harm their District 1 playoff outlook though, as the Eagles are still the top seed in the 5A bracket. They’re back in action on Tuesday at Chester.

We have a win streak on our hands in Ridley. The Raiders have won four straight and are looking like their usual selves. At 5-5 in the Central League, they’re squarely on the bubble in the 6A tournament. Ridley currently holds the 24th spot.

Ridley will be back in action with a big time test against Strath Haven on Monday. The Raiders will be on the road in that one.

BRYN MAWR — For a brief second, Harriton had the Haverford Fords on their first true upset alert of the year.

That alert wouldn’t last as they scored eight runs over their final three at-bats to earn an 11-5 victory and stay undefeated.

With a game against defending league champions Strath Haven looming on Wednesday, Haverford elected to start Gavin McClafferty and save ace Jimmy Boyle.

Nick Elvanian made sure McClafferty took the mound with a lead. His single scored Shane Durkan and put the Fords up 1-0 in the top of the first.

Harriton answered right back with a little help from Haverford’s defense. Bryce Siegel doubled with one out and was able to come home on a two-out error to tie the game.

Haverford’s duo of Jefferson commits put them back ahead in the third. Ryan Cassidy hit an RBI double that made it 2-1 and Jimmy Boyle singled him home for a 3-1 lead.

Again, the Fords couldn’t hold onto the lead. Harriton drew two walks to start their half of the third and Cole Chodkowski bought everyone home and tied the game with a single. Colin Sullivan gave the Rams their first lead of the day with a double and Gaven Bowman put them up 5-3 with a RBI groundout.

A scoreless fourth inning left Haverford with their first late-game deficit in a little while but they were able to rally.

The top of the lineup showed how quickly they can strike in the fifth. Cassidy drew a walk and Boyle put the Fords within one with a triple to right. Durkan, the next batter, tied the game at five with a single.

Elvanian drew a walk to continue the no-out threat and Cam McCormack put Haverford back ahead with a single.

Durkan continued a great day at the plate and added to the lead in the sixth. With two outs and one on base, he stepped up and hit a two-run home run to right that gave Haverford an 8-5 lead.

Andrew Brown put the game away in the top of the seventh. After Sam Sturman and Ben Ishmael both got on with singles, Brown scored both with a single of his own. Brown scored later in the inning on an error to push the lead to 11-5.

Rocco Kelleher did a great job to settle things down on the mound for the Fords today. After some struggles from the starter, McClafferty, Kelleher pitched a scoreless, hitless final four innings to earn the win. He also struck out seven in his outing.

Haverford is now 9-0 in the Central League and 12-0 overall. They have a lead in the Central League standings and also hold the top spot in the District 1 6A rankings. That undefeated record will get another big test Wednesday when they host Strath Haven.

Harriton falls to 3-6 in the Central League and is on the outside of the 5A playoff picture but has a lot of time to make up ground. The Rams have another tough matchup on Wednesday. They go on the road to Garnet Valley (5-4).

LANSDALE, PA — Bonner continued their climb back into PCL contention today, scoring eleven runs across the fifth and sixth innings to beat Lansdale Catholic 13-1 in six innings.

Michael Klawansky took the hill for the Friars and was brilliant. He pitched the entire game, only giving up an unearned run on one hit and struck out six. Klawansky took a no-hitter into the sixth.

It was a fantastic start from another Bonner pitcher that’s maybe seeing a few more innings than expected with Cory Sheridan out. The complete game also saves the rest of the staff for Thursday’s Delco Baseball Now game of the week matchup against rival Cardinal O’Hara.

Sergio Hernandez and Michael Coleman led the way from the top two spots in the lineup. Both had two hits and two RBI’s. Cole Romano also picked up two hits on the day.

A seven-spot in the fifth put this game away. Leading 2-0, Hernandez led off with a single. Ryan Friel singled him home and a walk and another single loaded the bases.

Bonner’s offense took off from there. Gavin DiRita drew the second of his three walks on the day, bringing in the fourth run. Jack Redding then got hit by a pitch and brought in the fifth.

Joey Graziani singled to make it 6-0 and Luke Albarano made the most of a pinch hit opportunity, hitting a two-run single to left. Coleman finished off the inning with an RBI double that gave the Friars a commanding 9-0 lead.

Four more came across in the top of the sixth and Klawansky slammed the door on the mercy-rule victory.

The Friars are now 4-4 in the PCL and working their way back up the standings after a rough start. Thursday is a huge opportunity for them; Bonner has the chance to get above .500 in the league for the first time this year and score a huge win over their rival in the process.

CHICHESTER, PA — Gavin Derrickson got the nod to start on the mound in Chichester’s non-league game against Delco Christian. The Eagles would not need to throw anyone else. 

Derrickson pitched an efficient 79-pitch complete game and Chichester rode a six-run second inning to an 8-2 win.

It did start a little rocky for Derrickson, and Delco Christian’s offense got them out to a 2-0 lead.

Matteo DeBellis reached on an error and a double from Nathan Burd put runners on second and third to start the game. With two outs, DeBellis stole home, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.

Sam Dixon led off the second with a double and a Reid Darnall single gave Delco Christian a 2-0 and had things looking good.

The game unraveled a bit for the Knights in the bottom of the second. Chichester’s Werley brothers both reached on a walk and hit by pitch. Julian Sparks’ single loaded the bases with one out.

Matt Johanson drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing in Chichester’s first run of the game. Zach Murray then gave the Eagles the lead with a two-RBI single.

Derrickson helped himself out with a single that made it 4-2 and an Alex Kester groundout put Chichester up 5-2. An error later in the inning extended the lead to 6-2.

The big response from his offense seemed to help Derrickson settle in. The Eagle offense added even more for him in the bottom of the third. 

Sparks reached on an error and Johanson doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs. Cole Sanford brought in one with an RBI groundout and Murray picked up his third RBI of the day with a single to make it 8-2.

Derrickson held Delco Christian hitless the rest of the way, finishing the game with a line of four hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts, and a win.

Delco Christian falls to 4-6 on the year. Monday’s loss wasn’t the end of the world as they still remain undefeated in league play. The Knights are right back in action on Tuesday against Bristol.

Chichester moves to 6-2 overall and has won six straight. The Eagles also don’t get a day off; they’re back in action on Tuesday in our Game of the Week at Interboro. A win would give Chichester the season series over the Bucs and put them in a really good spot to win the Del Val.
