Garnet Valley cruises in 7-0 win over Conestoga

GARNET VALLEY, PA — Garnet Valley took control early and never looked back, shutting out Conestoga for all seven innings.

It was a whole lotta retiring of the first three hitters for both sides of the ball today, but ultimately the Jaguars would take advantage of the hitting opportunities and shut out the Pioneers.

The Jaguars got their offense rolling in the bottom of the third inning.

After a double by Cole Lombardo, Chris Schaller was hit by a pitch, and Brady Thompson followed with a single. A fielding error allowed both Lombardo and Schaller to score, putting Garnet Valley up 2-0.

The Pioneers starting pitcher, Luke Hunter, managed to record an out, but the Jaguars weren’t done yet. McGhee reached on another error, allowing Thompson to score and extend the lead to 3-0.

At this point, Hunter’s day was finished, recording three innings pitched, three strikeouts, and allowing three runs.

Coming into relieve was Max Brown who carried Conestoga the rest of the game, pitching three innings, striking out three, while allowing four runs to score.

It was a quick game, not much hitting happening, but Garnet had one last spark of energy in the sixth.

In the sixth, Kyle Klein reached base due to an error, followed by a single from Nolan Carroll that brought Klein home, making it 4-0. Cole Lombardo then singled, and Schaller added a double, sending both Carroll and Lombardo across the plate to increase Garnet Valley’s lead to 6-0.

The final blow came in the seventh, Brady Thompson hit a double that scored Schaller, bringing the final score to 7-0.

Strong hitting and pitching by starting pitcher Joe Anzalone, four innings pitched, with four strikeouts, no runs, carried this team to what will likely be an important Central League win down the road.

Garnet Valley (2-1) will face Ridley (2-1) away next Monday afternoon at 3:45.

Conestoga (0-3) will have a big game tomorrow at home against Ridley (2-1) at 3:45 as a makeup for Monday.
