Radnor defeats Harriton 14-3 after third inning rally

RADNOR, PA- By the time the fourth inning came around in this one, just about everyone got their shot on the field.

But let’s just say, the game wasn’t always as stress free as the final score may entail.

In the top of the first, Radnor’s ace Austin Havertine started strong, striking out the leadoff batter. But Harriton looking for a spark quick, would have an answer and immediately come out swinging.

Fueled by a double by Bryce Seigel and a Nate Swalley walk, the Rams were threatening. Sam Bohnenkamp would take this fuel and put Harriton on the board, 1-0, with a single. Havertine would strike out the next batter, but found trouble when an error resulted in Hudson Weissman reaching first, scoring Swalley. The Rams now found themselves up 2-0.

Havertine would get Radnor out of the inning with the last out, but Radnor knew they had a job to do.

The Raptors went down in order to Harriton’s Hudson Weissman in the bottom of the first, but Austin Havertine would take the Rams in order in the top of the second. (let’s call it even.)

The bottom of the second is when the comeback got going for the Raptors offense. After a leadoff walk by Zach Fein, Daniel Kellis came in to get his own piece of one with a hard-hit single. Then came Radnor’s player of the game, Will Selbach. With a single, Selbach brought in Hayden Goldenberg (pinch runner for Fein) and Daniel Kellis, evening the score at 2-2.

Just one play after, Joseph Krasowski would hit a triple scoring Will Selbach and Teddy Monahan, putting Radnor ahead for the first time in this one, 4-2.

At this point Harriton’s Weissman’s day was over after 1.2 innings, after striking out two, and allowing four runs.

Havertine would take care of the Rams once again in the top of third, ending his day with three innings pitched, seven strikeouts, and two runs allowed. (Let’s just say, they wouldn’t need him to come back into this one after the job done in the third inning.)

Don’t call it a comeback…but absolutely call it a comeback. Call it a ten-run third inning comeback.

Matt Szychulski got it started with a single and the Raptors didn’t look back. After his single, Evan Hartman walked, setting up Zach Fein with an opportunity to bunt, loading the bases. After a walk by Daniel Kellis, the Raptors forced the first run home making the score 5-2, but it wouldn’t be the end of the rally.

Harriton pitcher Cole Feldman’s day was over at this point, bringing in Ryan Slone to deal with this sparked Raptors offense.

Kyle Miltenberger showed him just how sparked this offense was, on the first pitch, Miltenberger doubled on a line drive, scoring Evan Hartman and Hayden Goldenberg. With Kellis still on third and Miltenberger at second, Austin Havertine walked, loading the bases once again.

It’s like the past kept repeating itself, with another walk of Selbach with the bases loaded, Kellis would be the eighth run to score on the day for the Raptors.

But why have eight runs when you can have ten?

It’s rumored that’s what Teddy Monahan was thinking at the plate when he doubled, scoring Kyle Miltenberger and John Belveal (pinch runner for Havertine) putting the Raptors up 10-2.

With the addition of the Raptors four runs, Ryan Slones day was over, bringing in Gaven Bowman.

Bowman would get the first out of the inning, but after a walk by Matt Szychulski the Raptors would load the bases once again, and Evan Hartman would reach on an error, scoring Will Selbach and Teddy Monahan.

The scoring updates are almost complete I promise.

Up 12-2, Zach Fein would hit his second single of the day, scoring Szychulski.

Bowman’s day would be over after attaining the second out of the inning. Bringing in Myles Freed, who would take the Rams to the end.

In the final scoring play of the day for the Raptors (finally), Blake Havertine (pinch runner for Austin Havertine) would get hit by a pitch, scoring Evan Hartman putting Radnor up 14-2.

Blake Havertine would throw the fourth, putting the Rams down in order.

The Rams would get one last hoorah in the top of the fifth after a single by Calvin Costello and a pair of errors by Swalley and Siegel loaded the bases. Kwait would hit the ground ball scoring the last run of the game, marking the final score of 14-3.

Matthew Zaslow would close out the game for the Raptors with one inning pitched, one strikeout, and one run allowed.

Will Selbach led the team with 3 RBI, and 2 runs, earning him player of the game for Radnor.

Radnor (3-0) will take the momentum of this one into Florida for their spring-break games, but will be back to Central League competition April 7th away at Haverford (3-0) for an early showdown of two of the best teams the Central League has to offer at 3:45.

Harriton (1-3) will face Marple Newtown away next Monday afternoon at 4:00.
