Fohner wins the pitcher’s duel to pick up second win in PCL play for Carroll

RADNOR, PA- Low scoring game? Both pitchers finishing the game? Only one extra base hit between the two teams? Oh man, old school fans are going to love this one.

Archbishop Carroll picked up a huge win over Archbishop Ryan. They secured their second PCL win this season, after going 1-11 in PCL play last season. That has to feel good for new head coach Pat Dunn.

Both starting pitchers today managed to finish what they started. For Carroll, Mark Fohner went the distance while punching out five and allowing on one run, on 93 pitches. On the other side for the Raiders, Jake Marchesano went six innings, allowed two runs (zero earned), and struck out 12 on 101 pitches.

Both pitchers allowed only one hit a piece through the first three innings, until the fourth where Archbishop Ryan got on the board first.

After a leadoff single by Victor Corniel, David Perez wasted no time driving him in as he ripped a double to give Ryan a 1-0 lead in the fourth.

Marchesano went out and threw a shutout inning to help maintain the lead.

In the fifth is where Carroll struck. After two batters reached on a walk and then an error, Drew Mulligan singled and drove both in, giving Carroll a 2-1 lead.

Both pitchers put up zeros on the box score for the remainder of the game, with Carroll only needing two runs to take home their second PCL win after only winning one last season.

Both pitchers were nothing short of excellent, and both deserve their flowers, but only one could take home the win, as Mark Fohner was credited with the win for Archbishop Carroll.

Archbishop Ryan falls to 1-2 in the PCL and will face Bonner (1-2 in PCL) at home on Wednesday at 4:00pm.

Archbishop Carroll moves up to 2-2 in the PCL and will face Roman Catholic (0-3 In PCL) away on Wednesday at 4:00pm.
