RADNOR, PA — The best way to avoid being taken out because of the 105 pitch count rule? Finish off your complete game at 104.

That was the case for Matt McGaughey, who went all seven innings to give Carroll a huge first PCL win of the season by a 2-1 final over Lansdale Catholic.

The Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Jalyn Tidwell singled to lead off the bottom of the first, and would later come into score on an RBI single from Gavin Moore. That 1-0 result would last all the way until the top of the fifth inning, when Lansdale Catholic would tie this game back up at 10-1.

Carroll wasted absolutely no time getting that run back, as Nick Gilroy hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the fifth. Colin Moran’s ground ball was thrown home but it was not in time to get Gilroy and Carroll had the lead.

McGaughey seemed to get better and better as the game went on, as in the top of the seventh, he retired the first two hitters on a fly out and strikeout and picked up a strike out looking to complete this gem of a performance.

Nick Gilroy had two hits for Carroll including that triple, while Jalyn Tidwell, Gavin Moore, John Thomson, Ryan McGaughey, and Cole Tancredi all had one hit as well.

Carroll now sits at 1-2 in the PCL and will be off until they host Archbishop Ryan on Monday.
