Elevens runs in seventh propel Ridley past Lower Merion

ARDMORE, PA- Someone fact check me, but this might be the BIGGEST come back this season.

This game was all Lower Merion, until it wasn’t.

Ridley took the early lead in the first. Logan Bubb led off the game with with a base hit, then stole second so that John Teehan could drive him in with a base hit of his own to put Ridley on top 1-0. With one out in the inning and Teehan on second, Jake Mansfield doubled to drive him in and make it 2-0 after half an inning.

But, Lower Merion answered right back with a two-out rally. With Brody Slensky, who doubled with one out, on base with two outs, Nicholas Dragut singled to drive him in and cut into the deficit, 2-1. Charlie Parsons then singled to put Dragut in scoring position, where Calvin Rendle singled to knot the game up at 2-2 after one.

Justin Heck threw a big shutdown inning to hold Ridley and set up some more scoring for the Aces.

After Ryan Scholz and Matt Hartstein reached on a single and an error, Gus Wright drove in Hartstein to put Lower Merion up 3-2. Slensky then drove in Wright, who advanced to third on an error, to pad the lead to 4-2. Toby Myers was then plunked, where Dragut hit a three-bagger to drive him in and make it 5-2. Rendle then drove in Dragut to make it 6-2 after two.

In the fifth inning, Heck threw his last inning. His final line was five innings, five hits, one earned run, and seven punch outs.

The Aces tacked on a few more in the bottom of the fifth. With two men on and one out, Slensky drove in his second run of the day, making it 7-2. They went on to score three more in the inning, featuring RBI’s from Dragut, Rendle, and Jack Hollowell, making this game seem out of reach after five.

But, in the top of the seventh, the script flipped.

Ridley led off the inning with back to back singles, before popping into an infield fly. There were two men on and one out. Bobby Doherty then drove in a run on a single. Runners on first and third for Jake Mansfield. Mansfield came through and singled, to cut it down to 10-4.

Teehan then singled to load the bases for Nick Pollag, who came through and drove in a run on an error. 10-5. Aiden Wong singled to make it 10-6 with still only one out in the inning. Joey McGuire then made it 10-8 with a base hit of his own. Tim Calamita then made it a one run game with yet another single for Ridley, making it 10-9.

The Aces managed to strike the next batter out, but then walked Teehan to set it up for Doherty with the bases juiced. Doherty, the team captain, then drove in both the tying and go-ahead run off an error, to make it 11-10 Ridley. The script has totally flipped.

The Raiders tacked on two more for insurance off of a Mansfield single, giving him four runs driven in on the day. The most impressive part about this is that they did it purely off of singles and three errors by Lower Merion. Eight singles to be exact.

It took Ridley two pitchers, and a little bit of stress as they let the Aces tack on two runs to make it close, to finish probably the most impressive win of the season by any team.

Lower Merion tacks on one in the loss column, and now sit at 10-5 in the Central League. They will be at home against Garnet Valley (10-5 in CL) on Monday at 3:45 for a HUGE game. Winner of this game would get a huge boost in their chances of getting a home game for the 6A playoffs, or even a first round bye.

Ridley moves up to 6-9 in the Central League, and will look to play spoiler against Haverford (14-1 in CL) on Monday at 3:45.

Monday is starting to look like that memorable game 162 in 2011 with all these games with playoff implications.

Monday should be one for the ages.

Homer Happy Radnor wins big over Harriton to tie up Central League

ROSEMONT, PA- Radnor looked a lot like the 2019 Twins with all the homers they hit tonight

Radnor wins the makeup of Mondays rain-out against Harriton to tie things up at the top of the Central League with Haverford as both teams are now 14-1 with one game to go.

Radnor started this game off with a bang, as with two outs in the first, Matthew Szychulski walloped a homer to put Radnor up 1-0 early on.

Austin Havertine then trotted out to the bump and proceeded to strike out the side to help Radnor maintain the lead.

Both Radnor and Harriton were held scoreless in the second inning.

In the top of the second, Radnor hung up another crooked number. After Teddy Monohan doubled with one out in the inning, Zach Fein blasted a homer to drive him in and put Radnor up 3-0 after the top of the third.

Ryan McWilliams took over for Havertine in the third inning after the resumption of the game on Thursday, and picked up right where Havertine left off, setting down Harriton in order on nine pitches. Havertine’s final line is two innings pitched, no hits, and four strikeouts.

Radnor didn’t score again until the sixth inning, where as a team, blasted their third homer of the game, as Evan Hartman swatted one of his own to extend the lead to 4-0. Kyle Miltenburger and Joe Krasowski followed this up with back to back base hits. Miltenburger then scored on an error to make it 5-0.

McWilliams finished his night by striking out the side. His final line was four innings pitched, two hits, one walk, and six strikeouts as he takes home the win.

In the top of the seventh, the Raptors tacked on a few more. With two men on base and no outs in the inning, Szychulski was at the dish when Monohan scored on a passed ball to make it 6-0. two more walks and another fielders choice later, it was all Radnor as they lead 8-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, Blake Havertine entered the game and struck out the side to finish it off, giving Radnor a big win to tie things up with Haverford at the top of the Central League.

Harriton falls to 5-10 in the Central League and 5-10 overall, but still a big improvement after last seasons 3-13 finish. They will play an out of conference game on Friday at home against Central Bucks West (14-7) at 4:00 if the weather allows it.

Radnor moves up to 14-1 in the Central League, tying them at the top. They will play away at Malvern Prep (18-5) on Saturday at 11:00 AM. But their next, and last, Central League game is on Monday at home against Penncrest (4-11 in CL) at 4:15.

The Central League is coming down to the wire between Haverford and Radnor, with both teams having just one game left in Central League play, with Haverford playing Ridley on Monday, and Radnor playing Penncrest on Monday. Will Ridley or Penncrest play spoiler, or will Haverford and Radnor split the division title? (They should do a playoff, but hey, I don’t organize this stuff)

Boyle dazzles in complete game shutout over Conestoga

HAVERTOWN, PA- Is Jimmy Boyle perhaps the best pitcher in Delco? He certainly puts up a strong case every time he steps on the bump.

For two of the best offenses in the Central League, a pitchers duel certainly wasn’t what we were expecting. Pitching fanatics, this game is for you.

All three pitchers who entered today’s game were nothing short of great. For Conestoga, Luke Hunter got the start. He went five innings, two hits, zero earned runs, and four strikeouts. He was pulled in the sixth for Ryan Bauer, who threw a scoreless inning in relief.

For Haverford, the ace of the rotation, Jimmy Boyle, took the bump and impressed yet again for his THIRD complete game of the year! He allowed only hits and struck out 15 of the 23 batters he faced. He picked up the win, making him 7-0 on the year with a 1.20 ERA.

All it took was one singular inning for the Fords to get the two runs they needed to win. After Shane Durkan and Nick Elvanian reached with one out in the fourth, Cam McCormack drove in Durkan on a fielders choice to put the Fords up 1-0. Rocco Kelleher then drove in McCormack on an error, giving some insurance for Haverford, 2-0.

That was all it took, as Boyle finished what he started by setting down the Pioneers in the top of the seventh to secure a win.

Conestoga falls to 8-6 in the Central League, but will still make the playoffs, but hosting is still up in the air. Stoga will take on Garnet Valley in a makeup game on Thursday before they wrap up the season at home against Upper Darby on Monday at 3:45 looking to keep improving their playoff seed.

Haverford moves up to 14-1 in the Central League, and still in first in a tight race with Radnor. Haverford has one more Central League matchup to try and at least guarantee a conference title split. They will face Ridley (5-9 in CL) away on Monday at 3:45.

The Central League is coming down to the wire between Haverford and Radnor, with Haverford up by 0.5 games with Radnor still having to make up their postponed against Harriton (retroactive to Monday). Haverford is sitting at 14-1 with one game remaining in Central League play, Radnor is 13-1 with two games left in the Central League. It’d take one loss from either team to swing the momentum in the other’s favor. If both finish 15-1 in the Central League, even with Haverford having the head to head advantage, they would split the Central League title (which is pretty stupid).

We need Central League playoffs!

Taylor, Palmore drive in two each in Sun Valley win over Kennett

KENNETT SQUARE, PA- Are the Vanguards the hottest team in Delco?

Probably not, but being 3-3 in their last six is a big thing considering they started 0-11. They have scored 30 runs in their last six games after scoring only nine in their first 11.

Sun Valley had no shortage of offense in an unusual night game, as they scored seven on Wednesday night to grab their third win of the season.

They got the scoring started in the second inning, thanks to Alex Taylor, who singled with two men on to drive in Jaden Comisiak. With two outs in the inning, Sabo Graham drove in a run on a hard hit ball that resulted in an error on Kennett’s part, giving the Vanguards a 2-0 lead. With the bases loaded, Jackson Messick walked to give Sun Valley an early 3-0 lead.

Messick then went back out to the bump and threw an important shutdown inning, to set up some more scoring for the Vanguards. With a runner on second and two outs, Cole Palmore singled to drive in Comisiak. It was Comisiak’s second run scored in only the third inning.

Things got a little dicey in the bottom of the third. Messick walked the first batter of the inning, before getting back-to-back batters to strikeout, but then walked back to back batters to load the bases. With the bases loaded and no outs, Alexis Laboy walked to get Kennett their first run of the game. Rex Bright then singled to bring home another, making it a two run game at 4-2 Vanguards after three.

Sun Valley got right back on the board in the top of the fifth, after Ryan Messick reached on an error to lead off the inning followed by stealing second, Comisiak drew his third walk of the game to set up a two men on no out situation. Ryan Messick reached third on a wild pitch, setting up another RBI opportunity for Taylor, who drove him in on a bunt single giving Taylor his second RBI of the day and making it 5-2 Vanguards. Palmore then laid down a bunt single to drive in Comisiak to make it 6-2. Sun Valley playing a little small ball.

Jackson Messick was pulled with two outs in the fifth, as his final line was four and two thirds, two hits, seven walks, and seven strikeouts. Despite the seven walks, Messick did an amazing job limiting the damage.

Logan Coleman came in for Messick and struck out the first batter he faced to end the inning.

Sun Valley tacked on a little insurance in the sixth when Comisiak drove in a run on a single to make it 7-2 heading to the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Cole Doherty smacked a home run to cut into the deficit, but Coleman got the last two outs, securing a strong 7-3 win for the Vanguards.

Kennett wraps up their season at 5-13 and 3-11 in the Ches-Mont, an improvement off of last years 4-15 finish.

Sun Valley moves up to 3-14 on the season after starting 0-11, and now, 2-14 in the Ches-Mont. They will make up their game against Oxford on Monday at 4:00.

McGhee allows only three hits in complete game shutout over Ridley

GLEN MILLS, PA- Big day for pitching enthusiasts as both pitchers finished what they started this afternoon.

For Ridley, Jake Mansfield did all he could to keep them in the game, as he went six innings, four hits, and only allowing one run. Despite the great performance, he was given the loss.

On Garnet Valley’s side, Ryan McGhee went all seven innings and allowing only three hits, taking home the win.

All it took was one first inning run from Garnet Valley to hold on and win, as Kyle Klein singled with two outs to drive in Nolan Carroll.

Both pitchers shut down the other team’s offense, making this one of the more intense pitching duels, as only one run and seven hits were allowed between the two teams combined.

Ridley falls to 5-9 in the Central League, and will likely miss the playoffs after holding a spot for a good bit. They will finish their game against Lower Merion which was postponed due to rain on Monday, tomorrow.

Garnet Valley, moves up to 9-5 in the Central League and is right on the border of hosting a playoff game. They were dealt a tough blow with a season-ending injury to Chris Schaller, but their pitching has really helped them out. They will play away at Lower Merion (10-4 in CL) on Monday at 3:45 to wrap up Central League play.

Bonner wins action packed rain-delay game over Carroll

RADNOR, PA- Talk about the waiting game, right?

It took two days for this game to reach its conclusion after rain on Monday afternoon forced them to move the game to Tuesday afternoon, but Bonner picked it right back up, taking home the win.

Sergio Hernandez started the game off for Bonner with a single on the second pitch of the game. Hernandez then stole second to set up a run scoring opportunity for Ryan Friel, who singled to put the Friars up early, 1-0.

However, the Patriots were ready to respond. Jalyn Tidwell reached first on a dropped third strike to leadoff the game. This was followed by a single from Cole Tancredi and a walk from Drew Mulligan.

Nick Gilroy then grounded out to drive in Tidwell and tie the game at one a piece. Matt Mcgaughey then also grounded out while driving in a run to give Carroll the lead. Colin Moran followed this with a double to drive in Mulligan and give Carroll a nice 3-1 lead after one inning.

Joey Graziani walked to leadoff the resumption for Bonner, where Cory Sheridan laid down a bunt that Graziani was able to come around to score due to an error on Carroll’s side. Sheridan then advanced to third on a groundout, and was brought home on a sac fly from Michael Coleman, tying the game at 3-3.

Michael Klawansky then threw a huge shutdown inning to set up more scoring for the Friars.

Gavin DiRita doubled to lead off the inning, followed by a single from Jack Redding. Owen Lockhart then put Bonner on top with a single to drive in DiRita. But Bonner wasn’t done there, they drove in two more in the inning from a RBI groundout from Cole Romano and a RBI single from Graziani.

Klawansky then threw another big shutdown inning, setting down Carroll 1-2-3. It was 6-3 Bonner after three.

Coleman led off the top of the fourth with a single, and was then immediately driven in by a Ryan Friel three-bagger. With Friel still on third and one out, Lockhart grounded out to bring him home and tally his second run batted in of the day, while giving Bonner an 8-3 lead.

Klawansky went on to throw one and a third innings before being pulled with one out in the sixth. His final line was five and a third, three hits, zero earned runs, and six strikeouts as he took home the win.

Jack Redding took over and got a quick two outs to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Carroll had a little rally going. They managed to load the bases, and then Mulligan drew a walk to make it 8-4 with no outs. Redding was then pulled for Johnny Ortegae. Carroll tacked on one more on a fielders choice from Gilroy which brought home Tidwell, Gilroy’s second RBI of the game. Ortegae got the last two batters out with no sweat and ended Carroll’s rally to give Bonner a nice win after waiting a day to wrap up play.

Bonner is your regular season “Delco PCL” Champion as they took down both O’Hara and Carroll, but we’ll see what the playoffs have in store.

Archbishop Carroll falls to 4-7 in the Catholic League, but still remain at an even .500 overall, a massive improvement after a forgettable 2-17 finish last season. They will play in what is basically a playoff game on Wednesday vs Devon Prep where the winner makes the playoffs, the loser goes home.

The Friars finish 7-5 in PCL play, and are now 13-5 overall. They will play away at Chichester (11-3) on May 12 at 4:00. Bonner will finish with a winning record for the seventh straight season, excluding the 2020 season. They will likely be the #5 or #6 seed in the PCL Tournament.

Werley drives in three as Chichester wins sixth straight Del Val title

BOOTHWYN, PA- Someone get the brooms out, Chichester just swept the season series against Interboro.

Chichester had a little bit of everything from both sides of the ball. Pitching and hitting were both on full display, as Chichester pitching only allowed three hits and struck out eight.

Chichester scored first in the bottom of the first, after a leadoff walk from Cole Sanford, who then swiped second. Zach Murray singled to drive him in, and advanced to second on the throw making it 1-0. Alex Kester then doubled to double Chichester’s lead making it 2-0.

In the top of the second, the Bucs tied it right back up. With the bases loaded, Mike McLaughlin singled to drive in two and tie it right back up at 2-2.

McLaughlin then threw a big shutdown inning in the bottom of the second to keep it tied after two.

In the top of the third, Gavin Derrickson came in for Julian Sparks, who threw two innings and allowed two runs, and set down the Bucs 1-2-3 to set up Chi’s offense to take the lead.

In the bottom of the third with a runner on second and one out, Trevor Goschler singled to drive in the go-ahead run, putting Chi up 3-2.

The fourth is where the Eagles really took flight.

With two outs and a man on second, Kester drove in his second run of the day to make the lead 4-2. Evan Valentine then reached on an error, setting up two men on for Logan Werley, who doubled to make the lead 6-2. Goschler then drove in Werley to tally his second knock and run batted in of the day, making it a sizable 7-2 lead for Chichester.

Chichester extended the lead even more in the fifth thanks to a sac fly from Zach Murray, his second RBI of the day, and Werley who drove in his third run of the afternoon. It was 9-2 Chichester after five.

Derrickson finished the game in relief for Chichester, with his final line being five innings of one hit ball, and six strikeouts while being credited with the win.

McLaughlin takes the loss for Interboro despite all five runs allowed being unearned.

Interboro falls to 7-3 in the Del Val, and will play Academy Park (3-6 in DV) at home on Thursday at 3:30.

Chichester claims their sixth straight Del Val title, and moves to an undefeated 10-0 season in the Del Val. As their season winds down, they have two in-conference games remaining. Their next game will be an out of conference game at home on Thursday against Holy Ghost Prep (7-7) at 4:00.

Interboro is hanging on to that last PIAA 4A spot, just over Bishop Shanahan. They’ll need to finish strong to hang on. Chichester has clinched a spot in the playoffs, and will likely grab one of four PIAA 5A first round byes.

Messick homers twice in mercy rule of Interboro

PROPSECT PARK, PA — Have yourself a day, Jackson Messick.

The Vanguards came around to score 11 times, enough for the game to end early in the fifth inning. Jackson Messick drove in seven of those, homering twice in the game.

Sun Valley got their first run in the first inning off a two-out double from Sabo Graham to score Max Bartholf, who singled with one out in the inning.

Nothing really happened until the fourth inning, so innings two and three was all pitching.

On top of giving himself some run support, Graham went three innings, three hits, and five strikeouts while being credited with the win.

The Vanguards started the offensive factory up again in the fourth inning, Bartholf and Alex Taylor got on base for Jackson Messick, where with two outs, blasted his first of two homers to put some distance in the score, making it 4-0 Sun Valley.

In the bottom of the fourth, Logan Coleman came in for Graham, and after plunking his first batter, struck out two and got the third out on a ground out.

The fifth is where Sun Valley just took off. They managed to load the bases, and managed to score a run by a walk from George Wychozowycz. The bases remained loaded for Taylor, who then walked to drive in another run. With one out in the inning and the bases still loaded, Bartholf was plunked which drove in another, making it 7-0 Vanguards. And with the bases loaded, Messick blasted his second homer, a grand slam, to make it 11-0 Vanguards and tally his fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh runs batted in of the day.

Coleman stayed in for the bottom of the fifth, and closed out a nice win for Sun Valley. Coleman’s final line was two innings pitched, no hits, and five strikeouts.

Sun Valley grabs their second win of the season, a good rebound after nearly beating a good Great Valley team, moving to 2-13. They will be home against Oxford (3-10 in CM) on Monday at 4:00.

Interboro falls to 9-5, and will play at Chichester (8-0 in DV) on Monday at 3:45 as Interboro tries to hold their current playoff position in the 4A bracket.

Monahan, Fein lead offense while McWilliams holds it down in win over Marple Newtown

RADNOR, PA- Folks, we got some late season drama in the Central League.

With Radnor’s win today, they are now tied for first in the Central League after Haverford dropped their first game of the season to Lower Merion. Both teams are now 12-1 atop the Central League.

Marple Newtown took the lead early off of a Sal Brady double that brought home Jackson Burger. 1-0 Tigers after the first half of the inning off of Radnor stater Ryan McWilliams, arguably the best #3 starter in Delco.

For Radnor, Teddy Monahan led off with a base hit then swiped second base. Zach Fein then drove him in with a base hit of his own. Matt Szychulski then tripled to drive in Hayden Goldenberg, who came in as a courtesy runner, to give Radnor a 2-1 lead with still no outs in the inning. With one out in the inning, Evan Hartman singled to drive in Szychulski to give the Raptors a 3-1 lead after the first inning.

Ryan McWilliams, after allowing a leadoff single, got the next three batters out to pitch a big shutdown inning early on in the game.

Neither team scored in the middle innings, as it was a pitching duel for that period of time, as both pitchers threw up zeros on the box score.

This was broken up by Marple Newtown, as John Matthews singled to make it a one run game at 3-2 with the Raptors still winning.

After pitching a scoreless fifth, Jack Maholick’s day was done, as he went five innings, eight hits, three runs, and seven strikeouts, but was ultimately given the loss.

The top of the sixth would be the end of McWilliams day, as he went a strong six innings, six hits, two runs, and nine strikeouts. He was credited with the win.

In the bottom of the sixth, Radnor tacked on some insurance runs, which proved to be big. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, Will Selbach laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Monahan then drove in two runs on his second hit of the day to give Radnor a 5-2 lead. Fein also singled to pick up his third hit of the afternoon. Radnor had a 5-2 lead entering the top of the seventh.

The Tigers managed to load the bases, then scored a run on a double play. That’s where Radnor’s insurance runs came up to be important, as it could have been a different game without them. Caden Szychulski, who came in for McWilliams, got the final batter to fly out to center to give Radnor a big win.

Marple Newtown falls to 5-8 in the Central League, and will play away at Penncrest (3-9 in CL) on Monday at 3:45 as they look to try and sneak into the district playoffs and defend their title.

With this Radnor win to put them at 12-1 in the Central League, it certainly makes things interesting, as they are now tied for first with Haverford after they lost their first game of the season to Lower Merion. Radnor will play Bonner at home for out of conference baseball on Saturday at 10:00 AM. But, their next game with playoff implications will be on Wednesday away at Harriton at 3:45.

As the season comes to a close, and the playoffs starting in a little bit over two weeks, May 19, the Central League is still up for grabs between Radnor and Haverford, as this should be an interesting race. Conestoga is currently in position for a road playoff game, but is fighting to get a home playoff game as are Garnet Valley and Strath Haven, as they are all tied for third in the Central League at 8-5.

All I can say is that playoff baseball can’t come soon enough.

Boyle goes the distance in win over Garnet Valley

GLEN MILLS, PA- Someone has to tell the Fords that winning is not this easy, they make it look like clockwork.

Haverford took on Garnet Valley today in a game where all the scoring came real early in the game, leaving it up to pitching for the most part.

The Fords got on the board first. To lead off the game, Ryan Cassidy walked, then swiped second base. Jimmy Boyle then reached on an error while Cassidy stayed at second. With one out in the inning, Cassidy stole third, then came around to score off of a sac fly from Nick Elvanian. 1-0 Fords after half an inning.

For the Jags, Nolan Carroll walked to lead off the game, followed by a base hit by Cole Lombardo. Ryan McGhee then singled home Carroll to tie the game, as McGhee and Lombardo moved to second and third on an error. With one out, Kyle Klein then singled to drive in McGhee, giving the Jaguars a 2-1 lead after one.

But, Haverford answered right back as they scored two in the innings, including a Shane Durkan sac fly to right field to drive home the go-ahead run, giving the Fords a 3-2 lead after one and a half.

Now from here, neither team scored the rest of the game, and it became a pitching duel.

For Haverford, Jimmy Boyle went the distance while allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out 12. For Garnet Valley, Dylan Orr threw four innings with five hits, three runs (two earned, one unearned), and striking out five. Joe Anzalone came into the game in the fifth and finished the game for the Jaguars going three scoreless innings and striking out three.

Boyle finished out the game, sitting down the last three hitters in order, two via the strikeout.

Despite the loss, Garnet Valley remains over .500 in the Central League sitting at 7-5. They will play Upper Darby, who just picked up their first Central League win since 2023, on Thursday at home at 3:45.

Haverford remains on top of the Central League, now sitting at a strong 12-0, ahead of second place Radnor (11-1) and they will face Lower Merion (8-4) on Thursday at home at 3:45.

The Central League is certainly in for an interesting finish, as they currently have eight teams in line for a playoff spot in the PIAA District 1 playoffs, on top of that, Radnor remains within one game of Haverford for first in the Central League, and will likely go down to the wire.
